My DH and I ! Are going for 2 weeks holiday in Spain in an apartment with a washing machine, we always take hand luggage and a hold case, but this year only hand luggage, I've just re looked at the cases and thinking how will I do it ! Will buy toiletries/sun cream out there but what about footwear, evening, walking and beach and pool the day clothes and evening clothes. Also last airline it didn't matter what the bag weighed this airline they mind. Will they really weigh them. I really want a hold case but at the apartment we have to lug it up 3 flights of stairs

Only 3 flights of stairs! I'm sure that between the 2 of you you'd be able to manage it

VanillaCoconutDove · 17/04/2019 07:40

I’d love to know too, I’ve never been a hand luggage only person!

What’s your weight capacity? I think it’s a matter of being ruthless to the extreme and wearing layers to the airport.

TheCaddy · 17/04/2019 07:41

Yes bags are weighed at many airports now.

Buy your stuff when you get there or airside.

Just book a hold bag. It’s only 3 flights. Not far.

Thanks will book a hold case. Then can't take my hairdryer - I've watched you tube packing but I just don't think I can manage hand luggage only. I really look forward to the holiday and enjoy it, but I just want all my stuff

Book a hold bag. It doesn't mean you have to take an enormous case. Even taking a medium size case rather than one small cabin bag still make the difference.

Bear in mind if you do go hand luggage only that the cheap airlines tend to not allow a cabin bag AND a handbag so your handbag would have to fit inside your cabin case as well.

MintyT · 17/04/2019 07:53

@INeedNewShoes I've checked that, we fly from Stansted and can have a cabin bag ( paid) and a bag that fits under the seat in front, it's also the liquid limits two can DH take a razor ?

I think it's often worth taking one hold bag due to the liquids restrictions.

Sun cream is often much more expensive abroad, if you normally buy UK supermarket brands, so you lose a lot of the saving by sticking to hand luggage only.

Then there's the struggle to fit everything in so can be much easier to take a hold bag, which you can get rid of as soon as you get to the airport and then you just have a small cabin bag, which makes getting through the airport easier. Your hold bag doesn't have to be massive, or very heavy, just bigger/heavier than what is allowed on carry on, which they do weigh or measure sometimes, so you have to allow for it.

@BarbaraofSevillle your so right going to speak to DH tonight and book us a hold case

Ryanair don't weigh hand luggage, but it must fit in overhead lockers or under the seat in front. They do charge a lot for hold luggage though. Will your dh take a lot of clothes and shoes? Can you fit some of your stuff in his case?
I buy sun cream and deodorant at boots airside and get shampoo etc in resort. Yes you can take razors.

This is what we do. Wear your heaviest shoes & clothes eg jumper/coat on the plane. Take one other pair of sandals in suitcase. So max 2 pairs of shoes.
Other heavy items place in hand luggage to go inside plane
We have just been to Canaries for week with less than 10kg each
Take micro towel
