Pool safe with young dc?

Trying to book a last minute holiday and looking at villas in greece/ balkans/ spain. Most villas seem to have pools, which arnt gated off. Dc are 2 and 4. I feel it's a bit risky to go for a villa with a pool and worry the dc could just wander off and fall in. Am i being paranoid? What do most families do? I dont want to spend the holidays being hypervigilant, closing all the doors if we need to go inside etc... Just wondering how others manage the logistics without paying ++ for tots resort

Sit by the pool so you can watch it and tell the kids they’re not allowed in the pool unless an adult goes in with them. Going on holiday with other families helps too so you can take turns supervising. We don’t close the doors when we go inside but would stay in the same room as the younger children. Which with a toddler in an unfamiliar, non-baby proofed house I’d be doing anyway even without the pool!
