Where would you go for a holiday in Asia in August?

We always holiday in Europe but next year we would like to go to further away for our family holiday. We have two teenagers and like to explore new places and relax by a pool. We can only go in the school holidays and need to avoid exam season so it will need to be end of July/beginning of August. I'm thinking Thailand(Bangkok then Koh Samui) and also like the sound of Malaysia or Vietnam. I'm worried about the rainy seasons. Where would you recommend?

Dry areas:
Hoi An and Hue in Vietnam, but Hue is very hot and very humid which can be debilitating
Java and Bali
Malaysian Borneo
Luang Prabang - dryish
I have also been to Hanoi and Bangkok in the summer and weather was mixed, but plenty of indoor activities so occasional rainy days are not a problem

I would avoid Thailand in August- you’ll likely get quite a few rainy days and the humidity will be through the roof.

August is the best time to visit Bali/Indonesia. I visited in my backpacking days, there are some gorgeous hotels and beaches for relaxing but also plenty of places to explore. Singapore is also nice at that time of year and is an incredible place to visit but I wouldn’t go for a whole holiday, so maybe Bali with a stop off in Singapore or Kuala Lumpar?

Weather is good in Borneo, but that’s mainly it. Otherwise Costa Rica or Canada?

Belize in Central America?

I have been to Thailand twice in August. Both time the weather was gorgeous and it was fairly quiet because it was low season for them and so we always got a good space by the pool etc. It rained twice on one holiday and I can't remember any rain on the other. Each time it rained, it was for an hour.

Thank you for all the ideas! I'm going to do some research on Bali. I love the idea of a stopover in Singapore.

Cric can you tell me whereabouts you stayed in Thailand? Thanks.

The first time, we did Bangkok , the triangle and then koh samui, the second time we went to Phuket. I would recommend log samui over Phuket. The north was beautiful
