Best time for a holiday during pregnancy and Best time with a new baby

Hi All
When do you think is the best time to take a holiday during pregnancy? Would you travel after 30 weeks or want to stay at home?

Likewise - how long would you wait to have a holiday after pregnancy with a new baby - either close to home or further away?

Obviously it depends but for me I wouldn't have wanted to travel a long distance much after 30 weeks as I suffered with breathlessness and restless legs. As for with a baby mine was a very fussy, cluster feeding velcro baby for the first 3-4 months and going on holiday before that would have been pointless and exhausting

Definitely before 30 weeks. We did Center Parcs when I was 32 and I thought I'd be fine... Reality of walking around, swimming and not enough resting, albeit with two under fives, plus haemorrhoids from hell, wasn't pleasant. I spent the weekend after in agony. Not worth it.

With a baby for the first I'd say I once they're settled into a 'routine' but before they're mobile. Again we did Center Parcs (love it!) with our five month old who was just starting to crawl. That was easy, although I'd say she got much more out oft he holiday at 8 months when we went back. She was more water confident then. We've never flown with kids though so can't comment if you're considering that.

Our first flight with a baby was for 4.5 hours when he was 18 months old - went to Cyprus and he was absolutely fine, both with the travel and heat. Prior to that was Centre parcs when he was 5 months which was also fine.

I wouldn't want to go away past about halfway pregnant I think.

We had a beach holiday when I was 28 weeks (booked before pregnancy). It was fine.

Last UK holiday I was 32 weeks but we knew the area well.

We took DS to visit PILs in Spain when he was 4 months old. That worked well as we'd established BF and were confident with everything. I don't think UK or abroad made much difference at that age.

In retrospect we wish we'd had more trips before he was mobile.
