Cyprus in October half term

Has anyone done it, and can anyone recommend any places/ideas? Or give me an idea of prices?

I'm after general peace and sitting down with a cold beer in the sunshine - will be bringing the boyfriend and his 17yo daughter so will need at least 2 bedrooms and would probably prefer to be by the sea and in/near a village or town rather than in the country so that there are things to do.

I'm happy with clean and basic but I'm thinking with a teen we'll need WiFi!

Assuming you don't mean Northern Cyprus. We find that prices are a bit cheaper than the UK. If you like sandy beaches, look at the Eastern end. Protaras or Pernara, for example.

Thank you - I'll take a look. I'm a bit clueless about Cyprus; normally I have a bit of an idea what somewhere I'd like but at the moment I'm just thinking 'mmm warm'.

We go there regularly but in the July, August and early September period. We like very warm.

You might find this Tripadvisor board a good place to get recommendations and advice...

Protaras and Penera are touristy but have gorgeous beaches and lovely hotels.

Ayia Napa is the same and is not as lairy as you might think.

If you hire a car and go self catering it's easy to explore.

Larnaca is a proper working town but it has museums, great shops and restaurants and a lovely sea front. It has cheap apartments and a lovely posh hotel that's recently opened.

You could get the best of both worlds if you booked somewhere between the two. Look at Pyla or Oroklini perhaps or villages like Avgorou or Xylofagou. I was looking yesterday and there was lots of places on airbnb in those areas but if you want to be village based you will need a car.

Also check out Paralimni, Kapparis and Derynia. They have better public transport links to Ayia Napa and Protaras.

Brilliant, thank you - that gives me a great starting point. We're off to the highlands of Scotland for our summer holiday so I'm thinking that by October I will be sun-starved and need to see some blue sea!

We have been to Cyprus a few times and were in Coral Bay last Oct half term. Weather was great-we were able to sunbathe every day.

Coral Bay itself is a small town with lots of bars, restaurants and a couple of cocktail bars. Quite a few bars have music on or entertainment acts at night. It is also only a 20-30 min easy, cheap bus journey to Paphos if you don’t want to hire a car.

If you decide on Paphos end instead and like the idea of Coral Bay, look at the Neptune. It's on booking.com. It's small and family run. Great well equipped apartments and villas with an on site restaurant and brilliant supermarket up the road.

Resort isn't my cup of tea though.

I've dithered for a while and thought I'd revive this thread asking for more ideas. I'd really like any little descriptions of the resorts you have been to or recommended hotels/apartments/b&bs. 🤞

Did you go over to the Tripadvisor Cyprus forum and ask on there?

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 23/05/2019 17:16

No - I only trust the internet strangers on Mumsnet! Much better bunch of internet strangers on here Grin

But the internet strangers on the Tripadvisor forum include destination experts that might actually be able to give you useful advice.
