Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share their advice and recommendations on staying in Venice please? We'll be going for 4 nights in October (special occasion so month won't move) and would welcome any hints and tips on staying there especially on good food!

TIA

We rented a private apartment in the centre of Venice through Home Away. It gave us more space and the flexibility of eating where we wanted.

We found all the food good and very reasonably priced away from the main tourist area in the front.

Venice is very small so you can walk all over, you will get lost at some point but you will find your way :)

We're just back from Venice and stayed at the Carnival Palace hotel - it's a bit of a walk from the main sights (Rialto, St Marks) but only the 2nd stop on the water bus from the airport. We stayed in the red suite, which was great and had a jacuzzi on the balconly Smile.

We were also there last October and stayed at the Hilton - lovely hotel too but on Giudecca so a 20 minute boat ride to St Marks (but the Hilton have their own shuttle boat).

I'd also highly recommend the Venice Bites Food tour - it's run by a really lovely American couple - we did the dinner tour in October and the lunch tour last week and loved both of them! You get to go to where the locals eat and get great recommendation of other places/restaurants.

We're going back again in October as we love it so much! We're taking DD (5) with us this time though so I'm sure it will be a different experience with her there (we usually just spend the days wandering around, eating cicchetti, and drinking wine (the local house red is amazing!) Smile

Thanks both, that's really helpful.
