Travelling abroad - local sim in my phone?

While I'm on holiday, I want to buy a local PAYG sim to use in my iPhone 6s. Will all my contacts remain on my phone when I swap the sims?

Can't you save the contacts on your SIM card onto your phone? I have no experience of iPhones, but you can do this with Android phones.

Yes, your contacts stay in your phone but generally you need to change the area code in front of them.

I leave the original home number in my iPhone and add the work number as the original with the area code. But I only do this for people I need to talk to daily so save hassle.

Some phones are locked to a certain network, so you might not be able to do it.

Depends if they're saved to your sim or elsewhere.

My phone isn't locked, and most of the numbers I'd want to call would be in the country I'm visiting, so that wouldn't be an issue.

How do I find out where my numbers are stored?
