Off to Barcelona at the end of this week, any recommendations for places to eat, we're staying off Las Ramblas.

Away for a hen do but we're all old and tired so looking for good food, not too expensive, two vegetarians. Nice breakfast places etc would be good to hear about

TIA

Don’t eat on the main drag of las ramblas.

We are around a few little squares of the old town just nipping in and out of tapas places. It was lovely.

We were quite impressed with the tapas atTaller de Tapas on Placa Sant Josep Oriol, a small square just off Las Ramblas, but with a much nicer vibe. Tapas will mean that there are plenty of veggie options to share around too.

If you want something more traditionally Spanish / Catalan, I can recommend Los Caracoles. It's a fairly long-standing place but we had a good paella there.

Be careful about eating in the main market - We plonked ourselves down at a non-touristy tapas place there and DH just pointed at something someone else was eating and asked for that - turned out to be a plate full of pork fat!

Thanks all
Will make a note of those places

Went to a great veggy place near placa George Orwell but the name ascapes me! I'll have a look tomorrow for the business card.

I also recommend Bodega Biarritz! It really is a tiny hidden gem worth finding!

Federal Cafe, Brunch & Cake, Milk, Mala Heirba - All great for breakfast/brunch/lunch.

Rosa Negra - Amazing Mexican food and cocktails!

Domino bar, Bitter, College Cocktail Bar, Bacano, La Bombilla - for cocktails.

I had the worst tapas ever at Taller De Tapas. Over priced, mass produced chain restaurant food. If you want real, authentic Spanish food/tapas find the little independent tapas restaurants mostly down the side streets. Unless you want to get ripped off I'd suggest avoiding all the restaurants on Las Ramblas and Placa Reial as well!

Bodega 1900. It’s owned by the brothers who used to own El bulli. They also own Tickets, which is a.m.a.zing. But bodega 1900 is just opposite and was the most amazing meal I had in Barca!

Cervesería Catalana

We were taken there by a colleague of DH s who had lived in Barcelona for several years.
Wonderful tapas

Will definitely report back!

I am going here in a few weeks time and this note was sent to me from a colleague who works in our Barcelona office:
El Nacional – this place is REALLY cool, definitely worth a visit. It’s in Paseo de Gracia – it used to be a parking lot but now it’s one of the coolest places in town! It has lots of different restaurants and bars. You can see the whole refurbishment process in pics in the bathrooms. FYI, only the fish and meat restaurants take booking. Tapas restaurant here is ok – it’s fun because at certain times they go around with different tapas shouting what they are and people just take them. If you’re just passing by to see it, it’s worth having a drink at the central bar and a “banderilla” – it’s a typical thing, olive, anchovy and green pepper/jalapeño (but not that spicy) on a stick.

taverna el glop It has three branches, but the Taverna one is the best by far. Its a bit of a walk and when you get there the place looks closed, but go in and someone will lead you down to the basement, where its buzzing!!
