New York cash or card?

We are off to NY as a family of 4 to stay with friends (at their house), for 4 nights

Have saved about £600 in cash towards spends and intending to visit the major sights.
Would I be better off converting it all to dollars or just a proportion and then using debit/credit cards?

What is NYC like for taking card payments?
Are there many ATM's and if I withdraw cash on my debit card would that be more favourable than doing it here?

Shop around carefully before using any one cash exchange. I would exchange notes in the UK rather than the US. Some offer far better exchange rates than others.

NYC are fine with regards to card payments (some stores may also ask you for photo id also when paying by credit card).

There are quite a lot of ATMs but I would try and use ones in the branch itself rather than the ones that are outside. There are additional fees/chares made when you make such withdrawals and your own bank should be able to give you details of those.

get yourself a starling bank account debit card, free to use abroad and you get the MasterCard day rate so about the best exchange rate you can get.

and make sure you have ID with you got asked pretty much everytime

I've got a brilliant app called Revolut which I use. The conversion is good and you don't pay a fee every time you use the card, you can top up from your bank account and transfer back in at no charge, I travel a lot for work and use it constantly, off to France tomorrow so I've just converted my dollars and pounds into euros within the app Smile
