Safe Spanish resort for 4 sixteen year olds?

DD and three friends want to have a short break after GCSEs. DS did after his, which I wasn't 100% happy about, but because he was allowed to go I can't really say no to DD.

This group are very sensible and not party or clubbing types. They're looking for a nice hotel with pool in a quiet resort so that they can mooch around the pool and maybe wander to some shops or a market. They want Spain as they've all learned Spanish at school.

Beaches are really not my thing. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Moraira is nice. Haven't been for a few years but lovely little town. A decent number of restaurants but really not a party venue.

Nerja? Nicer bit of the Costa del sol. Cheap flights to Malaga and lots of bars and restaurants but not Benidorm or Torremolenos levels of party!

Frangipane · 28/03/2019 23:35

My daughter and her friends (aged 18) went to Nerja which is a very family type place.

Second Moraira, also Denia and Calpe in the same area.

Granada, Málaga, Cádiz and Seville are all beautiful historical cities in the South. Why not do a city break, hotel with a pool, plenty to do in the day and night!

Gijon in the north is lovely, no one spoke English (good for those language skills) and was full of Spanish families. It's an hour or two from Santander

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 28/03/2019 23:59

My DD and her small group wants to do the same. Slightly different as one of them is Spanish and they are going to go to her family’s home in Cadiz and spend their time in Cadiz/Seville.

HaventGotAllDay · 29/03/2019 06:07

I did the same at that age in Menorca.
Would second some of the cities though too.

BarbaraofSevillle · 29/03/2019 08:36

Palma Majorca would also be a good choice as there's the city for shopping and culture, and there's also a beach (Playa de Palma) and they'll probably find a nice hotel close to the city.

As long as they don't go to Magaluf, they won't be immersed in clubbing rowdiness.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. PIL actually live just outside Moraira which is lovely. I had somewhere similar in mind.

I will have a look at the suggestions. I like the idea of Palma. We'd thought about Barcelona but I think Palma might be a bit better because it's smaller.

We stayed at Estival Park which was very family based / older children, has beach / pool there and we had an inclusive package with the waterpark included which was 5 minutes walk. Shops just outside the front door. There's entertainment but its very family type entertainment. We did day trip to Barcelona.

redwoodmazza · 29/03/2019 13:17

Barcelona is lovely and very cosmopolitan. Easy to get around on foot too. Loads to see and do.

AgentProvocateur · 29/03/2019 13:40

I love Barcelona but the last time I went, in September, I felt it had changed. There have always been gangs and pickpockets and petty crime, but the police seemed to have given up. They'd round them up and let them go. And there were loads more prostitutes all over - not just in las ramblas. I'm not sure that I'd rush back now.

whiteroseredrose · 29/03/2019 17:53

I agree about Barcelona agentprovocateur. I went a couple of weeks ago and Las Ramblas felt very seedy. Youths kept trying to sell us drugs - two middle aged women 😂

I went with my DH. We’re both 50 and got offered drugs. And when we were walking together, a prostitute asked him if he wanted to “spend 10 minutes” with her. (I didn’t ask what she was planning to do with the other five...Wink).

It’s such a shame. It used to be lovely.

Slippiepippie · 29/03/2019 21:16

Calpe would be perfect. 10 minute drive from Moraira.

Very very safe. Perfect for a lounging.. Eating holiday!

Imperial Park is a beautiful resort in Calpe although youd need a ten min taxi into the town. They have beautiful pools and all inclusive options.

would a bunch of 16 year olds actually get to stay anywhere, usually you need at least 1 over 18 for a hotel

whiteroseredrose · 29/03/2019 21:41

Hi Chips. They took 5 sixteen year old boys three years ago!
