Hi,
We have decided to get married abroad in a couple of years.
We don’t get a lot of money but have decided to save like absolute mad and make it a bucket list/holiday of a lifetime.

We want to go all inclusive and we have two children who at the time will be 3 and 6.

We are looking at Maldives and Mauritius, can anybody offer any advice on these destinations or getting married abroad generally?

OP posts:

Been to both. Mauritius is much much cheaper. Took our children when they were 5. There were weddings at the hotel as there are at them all. Holiday was about £5k for 11 nights all inclusive. I don't know what a wedding would cost.

OP, you can only have a blessing in the Maldives. Legal marriages not possible for visitors from the UK! (Despite what Billie Faiers would have everyone believe 😏). Also, Maldives will be horrendously expensive!

Mauritius a MUCH better option! Very easy to arrange a wedding, no translations required - that can really bump up the cost so I would strongly avoid anywhere where translations and/or blood tests are required - and should prove much more reasonably priced. I used to arrange overseas weddings as part of my travel business pre retirement. The areas i recommended the most for beach weddings and for ease of arranging, stunning beauty and reasonable cost was Mauritius and Antigua. (Dependent upon the client requirements and time of year for weather.)

I do hope this helps.

I got married in the Dominican Republic, was a beautiful setting and would do it again in a heartbeat.

there are several facebook groups that help with planning weddings abroad which are really helpful with lots of links and information on wedding planners if you want. Weddings, dresses, brides and more is a good one that I would suggest you have a look at. Things to consider are whether you want any other guests/family to come along as well.

Mauritius is an amazing wedding destination. Book with a reputable travel agent or tour operator and they will take care of everything. You fill out some forms, collect relevant information (you’ll get a checklist) and go to Port Louis for some legalities and marry in paradise. Beachcomber is an excellent tour operator with their own hotels on the island. Else someone like Kuoni who book a wider selection of hotels.
