Newly separated from H. Had the inter railing idea this afternoon, me and 13 year old DD. Something like this.

I'd think about how much time you will spend on the train. Budapest to Prague is about 9 hours for example. So when it say 2 nights in Prague you might only end up with one full day. Amsterdam to Paris is about 5 hours. Seat61.com is your friend! I have organized an itinerary this summer for 3 of us, staying in nice 2 bed apartments, not hostels, for just about 3500 euros for 3 weeks. For 2 people happy to share a hotel room I could have done this much cheaper.

It sounds lovely to visit all those places, but in my experience, its better to limit the number of destinations and make more of them. A week in Rome/Budapest/Prague is not enough - 2/3 nights is barely enough to get your bearings and you will spend huge amounts of the trip travelling.
