Give me some ideas of places I can go to with good healthcare / hospitals?

I’ve come into some money and I’d like to take us all on an overseas holiday. This is a huge deal for us and not something we could ever normally do.

Willing to consider anywhere ... however, I have health conditions- specifically Addison’s disease which is very rare and even in this country the hospitals don’t always know what to do if I have an adrenal crisis (it is fatal if untreated). Chances are this would not happen - it hasn’t happened in the 4 years I’ve been diagnosed- but you just never know.

So where can we go (me, dh, dd and ds aged 6 with asd) where the healthcare is as good as if not better than here? And hospitals are near by ish?

I’m obviously considering the USA but wondered if anyone had any other ideas...

Or conversely anywhere I should avoid? (I’m thinking Turkey, Egypt, Mexico -??)

Thanks.

Cyprus has excellent health care

I was impressed by Slovenia as well I’ve used there hospital a few times sking.

Austria. Germany any Nordic country.

Do you want hot weather or not bothered?

I also heard Americans used to go to Cuba to save money so I assume that’s ok too if American citizens happy to use them.

Thank you very much, some ideas I hadn’t considered! Smile

I don’t mind it being a bit hot but anything absolutely boiling probably wouldn’t be good for me.

Spain is pretty good, avoid Greece.
Wherever you go research the local doctors and hospitals before you go and make sure you know where they are. On tripadviser there is a chat forum for every destination you can search on there or post questions. Often knowledgeable locals will answer.

I have lived in Germany and Austria and healthcare is excellent.
I live in China and for serious medical conditions we would be evacuated to Hong Kong or Bangkok. My son has had two surgeries in HK - fantastic care, if eye wateringly expensive. Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok is also very good.

Spain, even the Balearics and Canary Islands.

I know Spain is quite popular with people on dialysis, things are set up before leaving the country.

Most of Europe will be fine.

BUT why not look up where the best clinics/clinicians are and then find a holiday near.

Also check your insurance, in the EU - if we are still in you can recieve treatment as a local, the US you would need insurance and you would need to declare your addison's.

Personally I'd also ask for a copy of your notes to take with you.

Before you look at any destinations please find someone to insure you (and the family). Not all insurers will provide cover for pre existing conditions.

My son has a heart issue which can require emergency hospital treatment and our consultant at GOSH suggested Italy as being great. He said and I quote ‘they’re total hypochondriacs so the hospitals are great’
Now I don’t know any Italians so I can not testify to his total sweeping statement there but I trust his judgement in terms of healthcare.

Oh and we used ‘getgoinginsurance’ who insured him without issue

Most European countries are fine - somewhere like Nice in the south of France is lovely and has excellent hospitals. Wherever you decide take a fully translated description of your illness and required treatment from your specialist because it will have a different name and it saves time. I would check with insurance first though as you may not be able to get it for expensive places like the USA.

France has fantastic healthcare and is a great place for a holiday - very diverse, and something for everyone.
