Spending a week near Fort William this month: any suggestions on what to do?

That's it really. We're going on the 20th of this month and will have a car. The weather will probably be miserable so we'll need indoors ideas! And outdoors ones as well.... just in case we're lucky!

There's an Outward Bound centre near FW. If your LOs are old enough, m8ight be worth contacting them to see whether they do day sessions. Great fun to be had!

Try the Ice Factor at Kinlocheven (probably for over 8's but check). It's a climbing wall and an ice wall.

There is a soft play place at An Aird next to Morrisons for littler ones.

Buy waterproofs and don't let the weather get in the way is my top tip!

I go near there every year (except this one so if you want any more ideas for walks etc let me know.

Go to the visitor centre in Glen Nevis, they have lots of organised walks and activites, and good child-friendly displays. Fiona Pryce, the forest ranger, is lovely, grew up in Fort William, and has 2 children of her own, so will be a good source of advice.

Get a three-wheeler pram with a raincover and make the most of the wonderful scenery with walks and lovely pub lunches. Try the Lochan Trail at Glencoe, drive through Glencoe village, over bridge then turn left. It's a lovely place to walk and pram-friendly.

Check out Oban too - about an hour from FW - more shops there. Trip to Mull to Tobermorey (home of Balamory)? Get the boat from Oban.

What about the train Kbear! The steam train runs from Fort William to Malaig every day. Beautiful scenery to look at along the way, inculding the famous Harry Potter viaduct and a sandy beach at Malaig when you get there.

I've been getting shirty with someone who suggested that a childminder would leave a child in the car and go into the supermarket with a baby monitor! What time's cake in your house? Mines gonna be a least an hour yet!

Ooohhh.... so many lovely ideas! Thanks everyone!
