Everywhere we hae looked won't accept families...or more to the point..babies.

All we want to do is to stay in a lush 5* hotel fri and sat night BUT everywhere we have tried won't accept families or claims to have no family rooms.

DH & I o want to get away for the weekend with dd (2) and ds(21 weeks). We have had a bad 5 months since ds's birth and want a break away for the 4 of us......Its also our 3 year wedding anniversary next week..and we want to chill before ds undergoes a major operation in a months time...

Does everywhere 5* discrimate against families wanting luxary..? Surely this shouldn't be allowed..? There would be uproar if they said Fat people can't stay here etc....

You could try Armathwaite Hall - only 4* I think and might be a bit staid, but definitely family friendly.

LuciusCat · 10/07/2007 20:59

any of these any good

I know that the Inn on the Lake is nice.

flossie64 · 10/07/2007 21:02

Armathwaite hall is fabulous , even got its own helicopter pad !!
We used to live near to it and my Dad usedto take all the family on special occasions.
I've never really seen such huge fireplaces . You can look it up on the web .About £600 for a weekend .Enjoy

brandnewhelsy · 10/07/2007 21:03

haven't been but it says family rooms and children welcome

cazzybabs · 10/07/2007 21:06

The drunken duck has a family room and is LUSHHHHHH. Tis is the Mr and Mrs Smith guide. It is not a hotel and is not 5* but does bloody lovelyt food and beer and has lovely smellies in the bath abd I would be very if you stayed there!

we had 2 nights for our honey moon. WE also stayed in some other 5* hotels (none of those mentionned) and the DD was by far the nicest and it has cat and a dog and is the middle of no-where!

DrNortherner · 10/07/2007 21:07

Oh I am an expert on The Lake District. The company I work for market it asa tourist destination.

I can tell you now there are no 5 star hotels in Cumbria. I wish there was - my job would be a whole lot easier

The nicest Hotels are (and I've been to them all [grin)

North Lakes, Penrith
The lakeside (Windermere)
The Samling
Armathwaite Hall
Old England

I'm watching this with interest as dp and I are off to the Lakes on Friday for 2 WHOLE NIGHTS WITHOUT THE KIDS..! So, kind of different but I want somewhere nice - haven't booked anything yet (trying to be nonchalant and last minute about the whole thing - starting to panic now...). No room at the Drunken Duck unfortunately - not for 2 nights anyway, and most of the others are booked, but there are still rooms at the Lakeside.

Northerner - what about the Best Western Ambleside Salutation Hotel? Or any more??!

shhhh · 10/07/2007 21:14

thanks everyone...
dd won't allow families as dh has checked. Lakeside is where we went a year or so ago and was devine I agree but no rooms.... Neither has sharrowbay, linthwaite hall won't accept babies.... So Im now off to check bnh and elliots suggestions...watch this space.

inn on the lake is full apparently....looks devine as well though..

thanks for now x

Shhh - Lindeth Fell looks nice and is family friendly as they have cots - and they've still got rooms for Friday. Check it out via www.laterooms.com

Dottydot · 10/07/2007 21:18

crossed posts! You're right though - no rooms at Lakeside for this weekend. Maybe we should make it a joint project..!

DrNortherner · 10/07/2007 21:19

Dottydot Salutation Hotel is 3 star and perfectably acceptable, also the Castle Green in Kendal is a nice 3 star.

DrNortherner · 10/07/2007 21:20

Judging by Late Rooms The Lakes looks pretty busy this weekend as all teh major Hotels have closed out to them.

Does it have to be teh lakes guys?

rookiemum · 10/07/2007 21:21

Ok its not five star but the lodges are very nice, its child friendly and they have a posh restaurant on site.

I can't do links but www.pureleisure-holidays.co.uk for shouth lakeland leisure village gives you all the info.

Failing that try hoseasons for nice cottages and buy luxury food and drink from m&s.

I know its not as luxurious as staying in a hotel but we have found that most of our holidays s/c seem to work out better than hotels and are a darn side cheaper as well.

Failing that, don't know where you live but we did have a wonderful luxury break in the Peebles Hydro, they have adjoining childrens rooms, a high tea menu, loads of play areas but a smart dinner area. Probably not in the right area for you though.

Dottydot · 10/07/2007 21:22

Yes, definitely the Lakes - far enough away to feel like a proper break (first time we're having 2 nights away on our own) but near enough to the kids and my Mum's. And I love water and want to go there [stamps feet]. Yes, it looks horribly busy though...

supertrouper · 10/07/2007 21:23

Salutation is great as its got the pool and spa and is in the centre of ambleside so great for restaurants (Thai right next door). We even got a balcony!

Dottydot · 10/07/2007 21:25

Might go for that then - it's just about in our made up £200 budget (as in, we haven't got a budget so £200 might as well go on the overdraft! )

DrNortherner · 10/07/2007 21:26

Dotty as a romantic break for teh 2 of you, you must check out The Samling

Expensive but devine. The website does not do it justice.

DrNortherner · 10/07/2007 21:27

Check out teh wild boar too, another good 3 star.

Be acrefuil though, some 3 stars are a bit dubious

Dottydot · 10/07/2007 21:28

Northerner - if I get this job I'm going for tomorrow, I'll take dp there to celebrate!!

DrNortherner · 10/07/2007 21:30

She'll love it I'm sure. But I bet wherever you stay this weekend you'll have a fabbola time.

The Lakers are so peaceful.

LuciusCat · 10/07/2007 21:30

thread hijack - dottydot, did you move house in the end?

shhhh · 10/07/2007 21:31

ffs why has everyone decided to go to the lakes this weekend... Sorry dotty ...! BTW show me your answers

DrNortherner · 10/07/2007 21:35

I wouldn't let kids eat in my restaurant either if it had a Michelin star

What about Chester area if North WEst? Thinking Craxton Wood/Carden Park or Chester Grosvenor if you really want 5 star?

shhhh · 10/07/2007 21:36

the samling looks.......ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so lush..... Does it allow babies..?? Pretty purleeezzzzzzzzze..?
