Can anybody help?! We have 4 kids between the ages of 9 and 6months and desperately want to visit a family resort with some sun without bankrupting ourselves - I don't even know where to start

What's your budget, one persons opinion of cheap can be very different than another's!

Last year we went to corsica about £1050 for 4 of us including car hire, self catering in a chalet.

This year is portugal £1300 for 4 of us in a self catering apparent, including transfers.

That's my idea of not breaking the bank, but for others it could be a lot more or even less.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 21/03/2019 17:44

what about something like this in Cyprus?

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 21/03/2019 17:45

We are doing Portugal at Easter for about £900 for five of us including flights car hire and apartment rental.

Holidays at Easter seem very cheap this year I think it's because of brexit

Driving might be the best option as flights can be very pricey in school holidays. If you don't mind self catering, the west coast of France offers beautiful beaches and lots of different sizes of resorts. We stayed near La Rochelle in a 3 bed mobile home in school hols and it was £1100 for the week including overnight ferry crossing from Portsmouth (shorter drive) and around €100 in fuel - we avoided tolls as there's none in Brittany except the bridge out of la havre.

Otherwise just look online at sky scanner and see what flights you can get - accommodation isn't that bad

We find Canvas holidays brilliant. We stay in a static caravan rather than a tent. There are pools on site and people are friendly. Really relaxing! Lake Garda was beautiful but Loire valley was lovely too. Beaches in Brittany are child friendly but weather slightly less predictable.

Im watching with interest.
Ithinkmycatisevil, would you mind telling me where you went in Corsica? How did you manage to get it so cheap?

Ithinkmycatisevil · 24/03/2019 08:49

Corsica was an absolute bargain, not sure on the prices for this year, I haven't checked. We went the last week of the summer holidays and flew on a Sunday from stanstead, with air corsica, flights were £100 each return booked in janurary. We stayed in a self catering chalet on a canvass site, chalet was basic, but had all we needed, the sight was nice, with good facilities, swimming pool, sports activities for the kids etc. We really jut used it as a base though and went off exploring every day. That was £450 I think. Car hire, cheapest car we could fit all our bags in was £170 for the week. Corsica is beautiful, it has some over the most amazing beaches I've ever seen, we'll go back again soon I think.

Holidays to Portugal at Easter are cheap because its not beach weather! We did a city break to Porto at Easter it was fantastic had a brilliant time but wasn't beach weather.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 24/03/2019 14:16

We go every Easter it's always 20s and sunny. It's beach weather to us Brits. We just take wetsuits. It's like a summers day in Wales 🌞

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 24/03/2019 14:17

Mind you Porto is North Portugal isn't it? We go to the Algarve.

Zofrasi · 25/03/2019 08:49

@ Ithinkmycatisevil thanks so much for explaining. I'm desperate to visit Corsica so I'll look up those options

sansou · 25/03/2019 13:11

Family of 4 - Spain, next week! Approx £1200.
Flights - 400
2 bed SC apartments in Antequera & Granada - 600
Car Hire - 200

July 1 wk - Corsica. Approx £1500
Flights - 300
2 bed SC apartment - 1000 (Calvi is expensive and this is a good price for the location and half the price of a well known operator!)
Car Hire - 200

Obviously, food and entertainment on top.

I always buy the flights early to get them cheap. The pricing of apartments vary depending on location but needless to say, the best ones go first in the summer.

Can you be a bit more specific OP about what your budget is? And when you are looking to go? I'm assuming you have to go in school holidays?
