Where to stay in Venice with DC 10 and 13

DC 10 and 13 are well travelled. We don't need a pool or kids facilities. I'd like somewhere pretty central so we can walk everywhere.

Any ideas. They will eat anything and appreciate a beautiful hotel. I'm just worried about the £ as will need 2 rooms. Alternatively I am thinking a service apartment or apart-hotel?

We have stayed at Hotel Marconi which is right be the centre by Rialto - first night room was fine but small, second night they moved us to a room with a view of the Rialto which was much larger for free. That room was almost too good, didn't want to leave the room.

Stayed in Villa Edera too which is on Venice Lido and lovely - you do need to get vapertto in for 5 minutes but that's really nice and there's also a beach there. Rooms are bigger and Venetian style.

Hotels do tend to be pricey there but we used to fly with Ryanair for almost nothing over there.

Stay as central as possible with kids - there's so much walking about in Venice that at the end of the day it's nice not to have to schlep to some far flung hotel on the mainland.

Really recommend Casa Rezzonico. Its in a quiet but central residential area, it has a small garden and it's a joy to stay in.

I know it’s slightly far out but the best western at the far end (Sant Elana) has big rooms, and if you get the vaporetto tickets it’s a fun boat ride (hop on / off) plus you have an easy means to the other islands. It’s only a 20 min walk too which is quite nice once or twice, especially in the evenings. I did it 7 months pregnant and didn’t find it too bad - but did rack up the miles walking.

Otherwise some of the slightly further out (but still only a few minutes walk) hotels will be your better bet, especially as everything ends up costing a few pennies along the main canals.

We booked a private apartment through Home Away. We stayed in San Polo, which is right in the centre of Venice and about 10 minutes from St Mark's square.

Venice is very small so it's easy to walk everywhere.

We stayed at the Al Theatro Palace and had the Deluxe room which is two big bedrooms together but you can close the door in between. Location was excellent, it was in a quiet square but short walk to everywhere.
