Or are we too late to find anything at this stage?
For various reasons, we've had a tricky year or so and were keen to do something at Christmas as a family. But what? We've never gone away at this time of year before and being a family of 5 means it is a bit trickier to find suitable accommodation and deals.
Have you been away for Christmas and what kind of holiday works well for a family with kids between 8 and 12?
It has to fit into the 2 week school holiday (21st Dec-5th Jan). We can do long haul if it's reasonable in that timeframe.
We usually go to self-catering in Europe somewhere but over Christmas not sure I fancy self-catering and figuring out how to get to the shops and what is open when. But we're not usually AI/laze on a beach types. We've never been skiing either, though might be willing to try (costly though). The kids have been looking at Disney cruises in the Caribbean. DH mentioned he would quite fancy nice weather (not super hot, none of us can handle real heat but in the 20s would be nice) so probably not Lapland or skiiing. Looks like a lot of stuff is booked up anyway so this might not even be possible
Where have you been at Christma? What kind of thing works well at this time of year? Our kids still all (claim to) believe in Father Christmas so we would still want to do something on Christmas Day itself. For the right holiday, we'd be willing to bust our budget (usually spend somewhere around £6k in a year but realise that's not very much for getting 5 of us somewhere further away)
