Family summer holiday in Miami

Hi!

We have a wedding in Boston that we're planning to go to this summer, myself, dh, dd8 and dd4.

We would like to extend our trip for some r&r and we were possibly thinking Miami.

Would Miami be a good choice for a family holiday? Would there be enough for the kids to do? Previously been to Dubai with the kids and we had a great time. Don't have any family or friends who have been to Miami so not sure if it's kid friendly or more of a hen/stag destination

Thanks x

It can be kid friendly if you pick your location carefully. I wouldn’t stay on the main strip at South Beach with kids (definitely a party area). But perhaps stay in a resort hotel a little further north. South Beach is definitely worth visiting though, during the day or early evening to see the Arr Deco buildings which light up at night.

There’s lots for kids to do - beaches, pools, parks, zoo, seaquarium, boat trips , cycle hire. It’s a fairly easy drive (or coach trip) to the Everglades to do the airboats/gator parks.

It can be very hot and humid in the summer though, with frequent thunderstorms and showers, and the threat of hurricanes.

I’m sure there must be good beach resorts nearer to Boston that would be child friendly , and the weather is generally hot all down the East Coast in July/August.

@budgiegirl

Thank you, I'll have a look at resorts closer to Boston too

Maybe considering Fort Lauderdale instead. Seems a little more family friendly than Miami

I would also choose Fort Lauderdale over Miami. Maybe have a look at other seaside places though. There's amazing places all down the East Coast from Maine to Florida and everything in between. I would recommend the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

@RusholmeRuffian

Thank you for the suggestion. Will have a look at North Carolina tonight

Stay near Boston. Cape cod, Martha’s Vineyard, all beautiful. Or go to Jersey Shore. Miami at that time is a sweaty bug fest. I have family in Fort Lauderdale and frankly, would never go in Summer (again) as it’s just too much.

I echo calls to avoid Miami in the summer, the weather is DISGUSTING in the summer months, with incredible humidity rates on top of high temps.

I'd be looking at Cape Cod/New England area given the wedding is in Boston.

@carrie74 @OKhitmewithit

Thanks guys. Will have a look at somewhere closer to Boston. We won't be driving in the US so will have a look at getting the train to Cape Cod x

I live in the US and there’s no way I’d go to Miami in the summer. Hot, humid, thunderstorms, possibly hurricanes. No thank you. So many better places in this country. Definitely stay further north.
