Hi, I'm after some advice please. I'm a single mum of eight year old triplets and find myself with some very rare time to myself over May half term. Looking for an inexpensive trip away, anywhere, open to suggestions really. Not somewhere where I feel that I'm a single mum, without my children on holiday with a load of families, which will make me feel sad. So ideally somewhere adulty!
Yours, gratefully...

I believe this is a MN cliche- but what about a spa break?

Bigonesmallone3 · 10/03/2019 13:49

I would vote spa too!
A beautiful spa hotel.
Book in some treatments, take some books, chill by the pool, dinner and breakfast bought to your room!
Sounds like bliss to me

Can I come

PresidentHump · 10/03/2019 13:53

Abroad or in the UK?

SeeYouLaterUserData · 10/03/2019 13:54

Central London: museums and theatres and park/river runs...optional spa hotel but any cheaper one with a day pass to another spa will do. Have a fantastic time!

BendingSpoons · 10/03/2019 13:55

Don't know how cheap it would be, but I really like Barcelona. Lots of different things to do and lots of people watching, great when you are eating alone.

PresidentHump · 10/03/2019 13:56

Majorca. Absolutely beautiful. Lots of little guesthouses (can PM you a suggestion). Hire a car. Explore the bays and beaches and old towns

PresidentHump · 10/03/2019 13:56

Or Rome. Plenty to explore
Do the Roman food tour

The Scarlet in Cornwall is adult only and in a gorgeous location. I think I saw an article on their blog about travelling solo recently, so would imagine they are well geared up for that. (They also have a spa)

Orangedaisy · 10/03/2019 13:58

Tbh I wouldn’t fly anywhere (would feel too far away from kids if something went wrong-but guess that depends where kids are!). Perhaps Bath? Or Cambridge?

OliviaBenson · 10/03/2019 14:25

Valencia is a fab city with a beach!

reluctantbrit · 10/03/2019 15:51

Is there anything which interests your u or something you always wanted to see?

How long do you have? Is a long flight worth is for just 2 days or do you have the whole week?

Look for a different style of hotel, a B&B without family rooms, quirky boutique hotels, spa hotels without anything child friendly aroud.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful ideas, I really want to go to Istanbul but not sure whether I'd go anywhere on my own. Not that I don't have the confidence, would just love to share with someone. A spa is a lovely idea, was thinking I might get a deal as it's half term and most parents will be with their children. Fancy the Pilgrims Trail in Santiago Di Compostela but again, not on my own x

Hi, I've done Barcelona, Rome & Istanbul... Barcelona all the way. It's an amazing city and so much to do as a single person. I would say Rome is more of a romantic city with lots of couples doing the sights , Istanbul is also beautiful but could be slightly tricky as a single woman. Barcelona is very cheap for hotels and restaurants if you look around & do some research . And the weather in May will be stunning and it's got beautiful beaches right in the city .

thetigerthatcamefortea · 10/03/2019 16:44

This is outing for any one that knows me but fuck it.
The first year separated I found my self with a few days whilst my children were away with their dad.
Knew I would be sad at home and knew I didn’t want a holiday surrounded by families so I went to Berlin. It was amazing. Enjoyed every moment.
This year I’m going to Zimbabwe to see Victoria falls!
Go for it!

jocktamsonsbairn · 10/03/2019 17:14

If you like yoga, why don't you look at yoga breaks in Europe. My friend did one just outside Lisbon and said it was amazing and loads of people were there by themselves.
What about Rhodes town? Book a lovely hotel then you can enjoy a pool, town beach and a good explore of the medieval old town. Can also get a day boat trip to Turkey if you wanted.
Or Sorrento/Rome/Pompeii - somewhere you can enjoy the history with fab scenery and food - and no small person moaning about rocks n stuff!
I also loved Berlin and would love to go to Barcelona.

nikkisin · 10/03/2019 22:08

Hi, I know Barcelona quite well and agree, it's beautiful. Am concerned that all these options don't sound cheap. I need it to be cheap (blowing my holiday budget for the next ten years on our family holiday this year!). 5ink the Med will be pricey since it's half term, so Berlin is a good option. Also a yoga break during the school hols may be better value as most ladies will be at home with the children if they're not working.
Does anyone please know of anywhere other than last minute dot com type of yoga breaks, or the Like?
I'm so grateful to you all for your ideas and your time!

Hello,ladies!
Well I think I've decided against Istanbul on my own, too many people made me nervous about it, but considering Budapest. Any thought, please? It's such good value, it seems x
