Ryanair Priority & 2 Cabin Bags

Does anyone know how to add priority boarding when check in has already opened?
I have two bookings - for the return leg I can see it as an option in Manage my Booking, but for the first leg it doe snot come up as an option (even though they clay you can add it up to two hours before departure)
The only related thing I can see is 'Select your seat' and have found some info on line that suggests that is the way to do it, but t is not very clear.

Does anyone know?!
Thanks!

Does it come up in the 'Add extras for your trip' bit when you start checking in?

Their website is pants generally, I recently booked and selected the 'Priority & Two Cabin Bags' to find it hadn't added it when I went to check out so had to go back and start again.

They only do 90 priority booking so it may be that number have already booked. Can you see if you can check in a small cabin sized bag. If you can that means there are no priority spaces left. It's not usually much more expensive just a couple of pounds

IamAporcupine · 10/03/2019 12:10

No it doesn't - only the 'select your seat' option.
I am wondering if I might be confused and the 'free checking' has actually not opened yet?
But then, why I see something different for the return flight? Confused

It might be sold out, as you now have to either pay to check in a bag or pay for priority boarding to take one onboard, most people will opt for priority as it's slightly cheaper and no need to wait for luggage at the other end. (Except those with bags bigger than the allowance, who obviously will have to select to check in a bag).

This happened to me recently, had booked a 5 euro flight but no luggage (in case I changed plans and did not use the flight). When I was sure that I would use the flight I went to add priority boarding and could not work out why it would not let me, but when I did a dummy booking in an incognito tab for the same flight it said priority boarding was sold out.
So I added a checked in bag instead via manage my booking.

Had no idea how much it weighed, but luckily there were free scales at the airport and my bag was 9.6kg, so just under the 10kg checked bag limit.

Maybe, if you pre-select the 'Priority & Two Cabin Bags' when buying then Check-In is available immediately whereas if you don't you can only check-in a certain number of days in advance but that doesn't explain why it is different for the return flight. I am surprised it doesn't give you the option to add it through 'Manage My Booking' as they usually throw as many extras as possible at you at that point.

IamAporcupine · 10/03/2019 12:16

@Starisnotanumber - Oh, no! I had no idea about that!!
Yes, I can see the "add a bag", but that is €25

I think buttermilkwaffles must be right, so book the option for the Return flight now if you want it otherwise you will find that sold out too.

IamAporcupine · 10/03/2019 12:23

Yes I've just tried what buttermilkwaffles did, and yes - it is sold out for that flight Sad

So what are my options now?

Try googling add small bag Ryanair. I just looked and it sent me a link to add to booking. It might work

CassandraCross · 10/03/2019 13:19

Looks like you have to add it to your trip for between £10 and £12 now or pay £20-25 at the airport!

IamAporcupine · 10/03/2019 13:44

Fucking hell - the €25 bag option is not there now!!
There is only checked a bag for €40

Can't believe this!

That’s Ryanair. We have booked with them and I can’t make head nor tail of how many bags we are allowed to bring.

Starisnotanumber · 10/03/2019 14:11

Did you try googling the add small bag to Ryanair booking and did that fail. It says on that but if website that bag can be added at airport for 20.00 or Euro depending on where you are going or coming from. May be what you need

IamAporcupine · 10/03/2019 14:17

Right

I had an online chat with Ryanair just now
Priority boarding is sold out, as we thought

I should be able to buy a 10kg checked-in bag but only at the time of check in (which is not open yet, unless I also buy seats)
The 20kg bag (€25) could be added now, but not the 10kg (€12), no idea why

Thanks everyone

Well done I'm impressed at your persistence.

CassandraCross · 10/03/2019 17:07

Well done for your persistence OP! It's like wading through treacle with Ryanair at the best of times. I'd be tempted to buy seats now if you can, the less popular seats aren't too bad price-wise. Don't forget to add priority & two cabin bags to the return journey or you'll face this all over again in reverse.

IamAporcupine · 10/03/2019 22:35

Thank you - all done now!
what a nightmare!
