We want to go away for a special holiday in July or August with Ds13 and DD12 to celebrate DH's 50th birthday. We're looking at going away for around 3 weeks and happy to do two destinations so that we can maybe incorporate a bit of culture with a beach. DD keen to go scuba diving with DH.

Indonesia - diving and Ubud in Bali for culture.

What is the weather like in Bali in August?

Unlike most of SE Asia Bali is not wet in August. I use the selective asia website to check when the best times are to visit places in SE Asia. I have visited Bali and Java in July - great weather on both trips.

Hawai'i, it's on my 50th birthday bucket list

Mexico.

We stayed at the Grand Bahia resort. There's loads to do!
We went on a boat trip where we snorkelled with massive rays, and turtles etc.
Good diving at Cozumel where you can do a try dive - the diving instructors were lovely.

Galápagos Islands. The boats often offer diving. Try a safari. Kenya offers diving off the coast which you could do after the safari.

@shaghaidiva - how busy did you find Bali? Can you easily get away from those areas like Kuta, that sound really crowded and ruined, to be honest

Todamhottoday · 30/03/2019 15:34

VeepVeep you can get away into more quiet areas, Kuta can be a nightmare, but traffic can be a killer getting around the island, sometimes it takes forever to go a small way.

VeepVeep · 30/03/2019 16:50

@Todamnhottoday - yes, I have heard traffic is bad. We expect a journey that should take an hour to take 3!

Singapore and Bali.

If you are interested in Bali but also want to dive try the Gilli Islands between Bali and Lombok. Gilli Trewangan is the biggest, Gilli Air the smallest. Beautiful, and the kind of unspoilt that Bali was years ago. You could go from there to Ubud - there are some incredible Eco resorts around Ubud and lots to see and do.
