Where could we go for a city break in Europe if we left after work on a Friday and returned Sunday evening?! It'd be in June for dh and I. We've done Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Edinburgh. The shorter the flight the better!

I love Amsterdam! Less than an hour away.

PotteringAlong · 13/03/2019 07:06

Bruges

Cyberworrier · 13/03/2019 07:17

If short flight is a priority, Amsterdam sounds like a good bet- under an hour as opposed to more than two for somewhere like Stockholm (which may even be almost 3?).
Another vote for Belfast, great city for a short break, lovely hotels, restaurants and plenty of things to do. Also how about Glasgow? They’re both v short flights!

FogCutter · 13/03/2019 07:19

Bruges
Berlin
Bordeaux
Carcassonne
Toulouse
Montpellier

anniehm · 13/03/2019 07:57

Dublin? A U.K. city perhaps, Bruges, ??

ivykaty44 · 13/03/2019 07:59

Antwerp

feliciabirthgiver · 13/03/2019 08:24

Another one saying Amsterdam - so easy and schipol airport is one of the best so even the time spent at the airport is pleasant. The Toren is a lovely hotel and they will book some great restaurants to suit your taste and budget.

WinterHeatWave · 13/03/2019 08:30

I guess it will depend on what your nearest airport is, but I'd look at where you can get to / from at those times, and see which of those cities appeal. Obviously less use if you are planning on flying from Heathrow, rather than a small regional airport!

Oblomov19 · 13/03/2019 08:51

Berlin
Bruges

We all drove to Bruges, Friday night, was easy.

Threeminis · 13/03/2019 08:58

Amsterdam!
Book everything in advance.
The Heineken experience is so much fun, you can book that along with a canal tour. Anne Frank really, really busy but such a haunting place to be.
It really is a wonderful city. Dh wants to love there!

Backseatonthebus · 13/03/2019 09:01

Lucerne. Fly to Zurich, 45 mins on the train. So beautiful and a bit different.

Or Bruges as other have said.

wizzler · 13/03/2019 09:02

Krakow. Fab place.

TheExtraGuineaPig · 13/03/2019 10:31

Bordeaux.. went without much enthusiasm last year and it was brilliant. Perfect for a short break

PazRaz10 · 13/03/2019 10:39

York is a gorgeous city for a weekend. If you mean further afield then how about Copenhagen or Brussels.
Also would depend on where you are in the UK and the destinations of the local airports!

shishnfips · 13/03/2019 17:02

Thanks all! We're bang in between Gatwick and Heathrow - 30mins to either. I like the idea of Amsterdam but dh not keen. We've done Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Paris as other very short flights. Bruges sounds great too!

Geneva is lovely at this time of the year, went through clickravel website and 4 nights stay with flights comes to £134pp

Jessikka · 13/03/2019 19:21

I loved Madrid.

Sat out in the sun with a cocktail and a nice meal every night; amazing mile long markets on a Sunday that they close the streets for and everyone is relaxed and care free.

I LOVED it there 🥰
