Pushchairs and car seats on holiday?

Hi all,

We just booked a trip to Croatia and Turkey in July - to see family and have a holiday. It involves flights to 2 different cities as well as the flight home, so 3 in total, 2 of which have layovers.

We will have DS who will have just turned 2 the month before. There is no way he will be OK with all the airport walking plus we want a pushchair for holidaying with. So that's a definite must have (will just be a cheap umbrella folding one).

We are also looking at taking a car seat as well hire a car in Croatia for the first week and my DP doesn't trust them to provide an appropriate one, then have booked private car transfers for the 30 minute drive to/from the airport in Turkey, and no car seat option was available when booking.

My question is - can I take either or both of these items for free? Or do I have to book them as additional bags? When we flew last he was tiny and took both with no problems, but the cut off seems to be if they are defined as infants ie under 2. We are flying with British Airways and Turkish Airlines. Their policies don't clearly say whether it's possible to check a pushchair at least for a child > 2 years, has anyone done it/can offer advice??

Thank you!

With BA you’re definitely fine. Not sure on Turkish maybe call them to check if you can’t find it on the website?

Aah. Brilliant! Thank you so much. I read that page and couldn't get my head around whether the "up to 2 of these items free of charge" only applied to infants or also to children :) I think I am tired and overthinking it!

I'll give Turkish a call. Just wondered if anyone had done it recently.

Thanks again!

I always took our car seat with us after two small disasters, both in our home countries with respectable hire companies. One had no seat available (despite confirmation from the hire station itself), the other one was too small.

We took the main big one until DD was 5 and could use the booster seat only.

I have taken a push chair and car seat on Turkish airlines.

Thank you so much! That is exactly my fear re the car seat. It's a pain to take with us but it's about a 3 hour drive from Zagreb to where my DPs family live and I don't want to risk it. He's a native speaker so I'm not worried about the language barrier just about there not being a seat available.

Aah ok - I will call both airlines just to double check :)

I think 2 of things like car seat, buggy, structured back carrier and travel cot included is standard for children at that age.

EasyJet and Ryanair both do it, so it must be the norm.
