Salou with young children

We're going to Salou in May with our 2 DC (they will be 5 and 21 months). We won't be hiring a car. Any recommendations for things to do?

At the moment the plan is literally just the hotel pool, the hotel playground and the beach (which is walking distance from the hotel), which would suit the 5 year old just fine, but we probably want a change of scenery at some point!

The waterpark at La Pineda (5-10min taxi ride from Sally) is good for the whole family. Has an area just for little ones.

There’s a little tourist train which starts at Plaza de Europa and has 14 stops which include the Faro de Salou,Masía Catalana,Torre Vella and the sculpture Els Pilons. You can also get some spectacular views of the Costa Dorada along the Cabo de Salou.
Find out if your hotel has a shuttle to Portventura. Most do. The park has some great facilities and attractions for all ages, you'll find dance shows and fireworks and a Sesame Street themed area.
During the summer months, there’s a light, water and music show at Paseo Jaume fountains. The fountains and the geysers create a beautiful show every evening.
We particularly liked Playa del Cavet in the fishing town of Cambrils, around 7 km from Salou – there are plenty of seafood restaurants and is easy to get to from Salou by train or bus.
We also took the bus to nearby Tarragona, and this was a real treat. Tarragona has a medieval centre packed with Roman ruins, including a seaside amphitheatre and a stunning cathedral. The kids enjoyed exploring the ancient ruins and I couldn’t help stopping constantly to take pictures.
Depending on how much time you have you can also pay a visit to Barcelona, it is only an hour by train from Salou.

The theme park does have a Sesame Street area for kids rides and some shows that they might be interested in.

The promenade along the beach is very nice. Easy to walk and feels very safe.

We liked the water park up by the theme part too, as there was enough there for the DD to enjoy without faffing with a bus.

We did love Taragonna, but it was 42degrees when we were there and more for older children to enjoy.
