Departing from Gatwick Airport - any tips please

We are off on our summer holiday next week, departing from Gatwick (which in my book is the airport from hell).
We plan on leaving extra time to cope with the extra security measures but does anyone please have any tips on how to make our time there, with a 6 year old and a 2 year old, more bearable?

TIA

mckenzie - have no idea what shops there are at Gatwick because we were so pressured for time we had to run from security to the gate which was, of course, at the farthest end of the airport!

We had a horrible time @ Gatwick @ half term, which came as a surprise because normally early flights even in school hols we have gone straight thru.
There are lots of vending machiones selling water airside, so suprised Xenia unable to buy any.
I do sympathise withtthe DH thing, because mine is always very grumpy being herded as for biz travelling light he just whizzes thru and can't understand why different at hol times...
Your DC are probably small enough to find it all interesting even if there is a delay. We have a five hour delay when DC 4 and 2, and they were amused all that time by a soft pink battery-operated pig we bought at the gadget shop.
Good luck - and let us know if you glean any tips on the trip!
