Trieste with young children. Any tips?

We hastily booked dirt cheap flights to Trieste on Ryanair without giving any thought at all to what we might do. We are going in three weeks for a long weekend with a one year old and three year old and have no idea where to stay or what to do. Has anyone got any suggestions?
