Travelling to St Lucia in April/May and trying to decide between St James club or Coconut bay resort. Our children are age 2 to age 7. Does anyone have any recommendations for either? Thanks

Regular traveller to St Lucia here. I spend all my time in the top half of the island so have no personal experience of CB but your location will depend on what you wish to do when you are there.

CB is in the South. Less travel time from the airport but the sea is rougher. Reviews seem to think this resort is of better quality than StJ. Good location if you want to hike the Pitons, visit the volcano etc.

StJ is in the North. Approx 1.15hr from the airport. It has a good family vibe, food selection is pretty good (alcohol choice/quality is not the best, but drinkable!). Staff are friendly, decent watersports. Everything is easy to access (good paths for pushchairs - not all resorts have that). I have stayed at this resort a couple of times & have never had any issues.

Just to throw another into the mix. Royalton is another that you can sometimes get in that price bracket. Quality is so much better (food, drink, beach, kids entertainment). This one is further North again, but if you were planning on staying on the resort it's worth it. It's not on BA or Virgin's books yet but it is on Tui's.

All of the resorts will offer trips out (boat trips, volcano etc).

Let me know if there's anything specific I can answer for you.

We went to St James 5 years ago and loved it. Service was good, children club great for our 7 year old and DH enjoyed the water sport.

Food wise the only problem we had was that you needed to make reservation for the restaurants first thing in the morning, max 2 days before. So at 7.30am your u had a queue of people trying for the best slots before breakfast. Not sure if that’s still the case.

Coconut Bay is amazing for children. Lovely pools & water slides. And you will be there in a 5 minutes transfer from the airport.

We've been three times to Coconut Bay, it's brilliant for kids, excellent food and only a five minute transfer after the long flight. I'd definitely recommend it!

We stayed at cocoanut bay last summer and had a great time.

Pros

Very close to the airport literally 5 mins and you have a drink in hand but hardly any airplane noise

Amazing friendly staff

Great kids club I struggled to get my daughter out

Restaurants were all lovely with no restrictions on visits

Cons

Seaweed on beach although they do clear it and it didn't really affect us

A bit breezy some days

I wasn't that keen on the buffet but other people seemed to love it

Overall we had a really lovely holiday and would definitely return.
