New York Break - Sites to use to book?

NameChangeNugget · 20/02/2019 16:55

I am looking to book a city break to NYC.

Been a few times before and have always gone through Virgin or TUI city breaks however, feel that I could get it cheaper?

Just wanted to know if anyone could recommend travel sites for booking?

Many thanks in advance

Try booking it separately. Skyscanner is good for flights, and there are lots of hotel booking sights - Trivago, Booking.com etc. Or try Expedia who give a discount if you book flights and hotel together.

Also, if you find a hotel you like, check the hotel website as sometimes it’s cheaper to book direct with them.

I would also recommend booking separately using the google flight app to see when the cheapest flight is and using booking.com for the hotel. I've just come back and flights were circa £250 return and hotel around £90 per night and we were right off times square so you could get even cheaper. I'd also advise not booking any activities ahead or using the city pass things as most of the attractions are just as cheap to book separately on the day and the rest is fluff you wouldn't really want to do anyway.

Make sure if you love galleries to go to MoMA on a Friday night as its free on fridays and has a real buzz and its the place to be in NY on a Friday night. Also the subway is a great way to get around and "live like a local" its only around $30 for 7 day unlimited travel and includes buses.

Also, we booked ultimately through KLM for the flights and outbound was LOVELY with Delta for the main leg but the way back with Air France was hell. Prison in the sky - dont do it! (KLM, Delta and Air France are all the same group)

Skyscanner for flights
Booking.com for hotels

Thank you all so much.

Really appreciate it

If flexible about dates, I would sign up to Secret Flying or similar mailing list to be notified of any bargains as well as using Google flights for tracking/ price drop alerts.

If you already know which dates you want, for flights I would use Google Flights as Skyscanner can be up to 15 days out of date and also shows prices from lots of OTAs which have bad reviews/reputation.

Accommodation I would use booking dot com or hotels dot com and/or book direct, depending which was cheaper after allowing for 10% cashback (complete savings) and would also check if the airline was on the cashback site, for 10% cashback on the flights.

BA flight/hotel packages can be really good value. Also ATOL protected which you don't get booking separately. I've done a few and often they're barely more expensive than flights only.
