Last Minute - Are there deals to be had?

We're thinking of booking a family holiday in October. - 2 adults, 2 DC. Can anyone advise on whether it is best to book now or are there still decent last minute deals to be had? We're not after any specific destination just somewhere that is a decent temperature; Canaries or similar.

I think it's still possible to get a good deal last minute out of school holiday season but if you want October half term it will be popular.
You probably won't get it cheaper booking late and you'll have much less choice.
