Hi we've booked all our hols for this year so thinking about 2020.
Kids twins aged 12, so will be more expensive now than previous years?
Must be school holidays unfortunately
We usu do couple weeks longhaul, 1 week short-haul rest UK.
Looking for long and short haul options.
Previously enjoyed Mexico, Mauritius, USA, Thailand, Neilsons, Greece, Spain, Portugal etc.
not interested in Turkey or North Africa.
Wou ideally like to keep long haul under £7k and Europe under £5k for good quality. Not wanting somewhere like ikos or fore or sani village where its £7k for a week in Europe 🙄
Neilsons again is v expensive in school hols and so is ruled out.
We are quite picky 😉😂
Help me out holiday maestros!

Longhaul
Vietnam - hoi an, Hue and Hanoi
Malaysian Borneo
I live in Asia so have limited knowledge of flight costs from uk, but Vietnam is good value for hotels and eating out. We stayed in a great hotel in Hue for $39 for a double room - private bathroom, included breakfast and within walking distance of great restaurants and shopping area.

Not sure about Vietnam with kids.

We went to Vietnam with the kids and it was lovely. Would also suggest Cape Town, absolutely beautiful city with tonnes of family friendly activities.

Hollowvictory · 21/02/2019 03:19

Thanks could you link to anyw you stayed that was great for kids?
I do love Cape Town but think it could blow the budget as we'd want to do some kind of safari if we were going to RSA.

Canada west coast - Vancouver and the rockies with lots of water activities. Oregon - very similar and not too touristy either.

MinnieMountain · 21/02/2019 18:56

A lake, mountains and cycling in Germany is on my list for 2020.

Hollowvictory · 22/02/2019 08:43

Thanks will look at Canada, have been but not with kids.
Thanks for the German lakes suggestion I have been and didn't like it 😭 one of my worst ever holidays but I can see if went not in boiling hot weather it may be better!

Canada is still DSs favourite holiday and he always asks when we can go back ( next year hopefully). I'd recommend flying to Vancouver going to Vancouver Island ( we've never strayed beyond Tofino which is an amazing place - stay at Crystal Cove beside the beach) , then we drove up to Whistler ( incredible drive) and DH and DS did loads of outdoor activities. As Whistler is more of a winter resort you can get great accommodation there relatively cheaply in summer. From there we drove up to the Rockies but that was slightly less successful as lots of driving and more scenery based - probably better as a separate trip.

If you fly Air Transat then you should be able to do it within budget.

I'll have a good look, thanks

We did 3 weeks in South Africa recently for about €8000, including safari. It can be surprisingly cheap, and it absolutely FABULOUS.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 22/02/2019 13:56

Sorry, that €8000 was for 4 of us.

Hollowvictory · 22/02/2019 13:58

Yes I've been a couple times and do like it

We did Cape Cod and Dallas with dd this year and Boston. She loved it.

Also thinking of Canada this year.

Costa Rica is great for that aged children if they are active types - We went to RUI Guanacaste with TUI for 2 weeks in August AI for 4 of us was £6,300 year before last. On hotel grounds we saw 5 raccoons almost daily including babies, a coati, gecko, and was surrounded by rainforest. Price includes wndsurfing, SUP, kayaking in ocean there, pools, entertainment in day and night Next door there's Diamante which has a 60mph zipline and animals including sloths. We did trips (c£400 each) to see sloths in wild, Buena Vista (active volcanoes, ziplining through jungle, water slide through jungle, horse ride), Arenal hot springs and volcano, Blue River botanical gardens etc and as well as Diamante.

Shorthaul we are doing Norwegian fjords/Sweden and wild animals and white water rafting type things around - Wild Sweden for animals, Voss white water.

Food was amazing you could have 3 course waiter service every night and the steaks were beautiful and around 16oz even for kids, good veggie options too.

PenguinPandas · 24/02/2019 12:00

The food refers to RUI. Norway flights via Ryanair are cheap and accommodation Novotel has some great places for around £100 per night.
