Close-ish to city centre.

We stayed in museum district last time and it was a bit of a mission.

Just stayed at the Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam. Fab hotel, next to centraal station, lots of shopping and food options around as well as touristy options. Complimentary cocktail hour at 5pm every evening too!

I was going to recommend the Kimpton de Witt too. It was lovely!
