DP booked holiday with Opodo as a surprise and hotel is awful. Help!

As the title says DP has booked a holiday for us in March, I've looked at the hotel and it has some terrible recent reviews including someone saying they got robbed in their room and the hotel did nothing.

I'm having no joy getting hold of opodo, I got though on the phone but got fobbed off with you need to call back in 48 hours when out hotel department is back in they also gave me another number to call which doesnt work.

I've emailed and I'm currently sat on hold again trying to get through. Can anyone please give me some advice? The trip is for my 30th and all I want to do is change hotels not cancel.

Are they on Facebook? Send a message or contact them via twitter?

I've spoken to them on Facebook and it's a robot or someone who has no power and just refers you to email and phone

I've spoken to them again on the phone and they can do nothing. I've emailed so fingers crossed something comes back from that.

Opodo are generally awful, and since you've booked for specific dates there's no cooling off period/ right to cancellation (unless the contract offers one). Have you picked another hotel? If you can give them specifics that might help. Be super nice and hopefully they'll help.

Also check the cost of booking a new hotel separately. It might be cheaper to leave the booking as it is, use the flights and just use a different hotel when you get there.

I'm trying to see the positive side now, i'll be in venice with DP and the location of the hotel is meant to be brilliant. I dont think we'd be able to afford to book somewhere else but I'll have a look. Thank you for your help

This is what we in our house refer to as the Penang Backpacker Hostel Experience.

In the days before the internet we washed up in Penang, and went to a hostel recommended in one of the guidebooks. It had clearly gone downhill since the book was published.

Filthy, stinking hot, no mozzie screens so we got eaten alive. Oh and someone had shit in the shower. And it was right bs the minaret of a mosque, so we got woken at dawn.

But Georgetown was so fucking amazing we gritted our teeth for a few days TIL we got somewhere better.
