Is there anywhere we can go this summer for £2-3,000 for a family of four?

Looking for holiday recommendations! We have always gone to the south of France - we do it for about £2k, driving down and staying in AirBnB type places. We like quite active holidays - nothing crazy but we like to get out and do stuff. We have done it for the last 6 years and fancy a change! We're anxious to avoid post Brexit Europe if possible but happy in UK/rest of world - could push budget a bit!
Is it even possible to go outside of UK in the summer on a budget?
Children are 1 and 8 years old. We're looking for a week to 10 days!
Thank you!!!!

We managed to get two weeks in Bulgaria for £2,000. Flights, transfers and accommodation. It's self catering though. Family of four.

Bulgaria sounds great - where did you find accommodation? Thank you!!

@WingingWonder oh wow! Why can't I find these bargains? How did you find it? Even in the school holidays?

Travel agent sorted it. Sorry don't know what you mean!

We did 10 days in Gozo in July for 5 of us for just under £2k. Flights with Ryanair, hired a car, booked great apartment via booking.com - shared pool and short walk to the sea.

Hi yep July school hols!

www.haymon.at/en/verwoehnpension.html I have booked here for a week in the summer. A 2 room suite for 10 days is about 2k euros in August half board. They throw in free mini golf, entrance to local pool and various walking activities. Lots to do nearby. You could fly to munich and get a direct train to Seefeld. Tripadvisor reviews are very good.

Plus the local buses are also included.

Last summer we got 10 days in Zante for £1500 for three of us.

Drive to Europe and camp / mobile home? Vacansoleil much cheaper than Eurocamp / Canvas and similar options. Lots of sites have fab pools, facilities, kids clubs etc. Could easily do.it for under 3k.

First port of call for me is cheap flights which for me means buying them early. For the summer hols, short haul return, I’m happy to get a return flight for

Yes I do same as above mumsnetter. For summer 2019 I booked flights the day of release last October- return to Lanzarote for £550 including seats and luggage for 4. I then booked a private apartment (lovely 2 bed that we have stayed in before) for £770 for 11 nights. So £1320 in total. We then eat out every evening, but eating out there is very reasonable. This is in school summer hols.

I am shocked at what packages cost which is often just a one bed apartment with children/teens on sofa beds in lounge.

Obviously it means early planning and having to pay for flights 9 months before you fly. But the apartment is just a deposit with full payment 8 weeks before departure.Smile

Not the summer, but we're off to Sri Lanka for 11 days for £2355. Just three of us though! The flights (with a stopover in Kuwait) booked a year in advance were £1380, the hotels (4-5*) are £700 and our driver for transfers (found on tripadvisor, lots of pro receommendations) is £275.
We did Sicily for 2 weeks for under £2K - flights with Norwegian for about £550 for 3 of us booked on flight release, took trains between destinations (booked cheaply for 9 Euro a ticket in advance on Trenitalia) and had apartments from Booking.com in three beautiful destinations. New York in the October half term is costing us just under £1.8K - flights on release from Norwegian are £960 (going a day before they break up) and our apartment from HomeAway in Brooklyn is £770.
Basically, I think what most pp's are saying is book on flight release and be flexible about accomodation! Sites like Skycanner and Kayak are great for flight deals and Trivago and Kayak are good for comparing hotel prices.

Would any of you mind sharing links to the accommodation you stayed in please? I have total apartment overwhelm!

lovelyupnorth · 07/02/2019 13:44

lots of options

we've done several holidays in summer for less than 2k for 4 (2 adults and 2 dd)

usually start looking around now - interestingly our summer holiday this year flights are around 200 cheaper each currently then over the christmas holidays (going to Canada)

we usualy do ryanair, then either AirBnB or facebook and hire a car - summer holidays we've done for under £2k include all for two weeks

France (ferry & gite with pool)
Germany/Netherlands (ferry, Center parcs for 7 nights then hotels)
Spain (flights, 14 nights s/c, car hire - august flying out of scotland)
Sweden (flights 14 nights s/c, car hire 2 nights hotel - august end of swedish holidays)

just need to think away from the herd

We did 10 days in Italy - Venice, train to Florence, and then train to the coast for four days before flying out of Pisa - came in under £2k for four of us. We did Prague and Berlin last year for similar. We're going to Japan this year but next year I want to do Rome, Naples, Ischia,Vesuvius etc. I don't usually book that far in advance (just a month for Venice trip and same for Prague) but will book early for that trip.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 12/02/2019 13:31

Absolutely!
We usually spend around £2k and we have been to turkey, Greece, Italy and Croatia in the last few years.

We always book flight and accommodation separately as packages can be very expensive.
