Am I mad? I know temperatures will be fairly low but has anyone been at this time of the year and would you recommend the city for a short (4 night) break? Thanks

Do you mean St Petersburg in Russia? It's not the best destination in the world for a February trip. Not only temperatures can be low, but also very windy and wet.

I had a week in Moscow and St Petersburg over the last few days in Jan/first few days in Feb years ago. Enjoyed both and the weather didn’t spoil.

This was pre-kids though and I spent ages in well heated museums and art galleries! I definitely did do a fair bit of wandering outside though - the Peter and Paul Fortress and around the Catherine Palace from memory. Just take loads of layers! Most places you visit have big clock rooms where you can dump everything.

I have been in the summer and would only do it with a proper guided tour, we used SPB tours excellent
