Hoping to get honeymoon booked in the next few days for next year July
Partner likes Mexico and some of the places look good like cancun and riveria maya etc but I'm looking for other suggestions

I my self am a nervous flyer so the thought of Mexico is terrifying lol plus since the only placed I've visited on holiday is france and Spain when I was a kid I'm a little on edge with new places ie safe wise health etc lol

Be looking to see some one about my nerves for flying anyway just any other nice ideas that you have been of heard of

I’m lucky enough to have travelled a huge amount and I have the most uncontrollable wanderlust so always seem to be planning the next holiday! However, I went to Devon on honeymoon in a very chilly February and it was just perfect. Loads of walks on windy beaches and cliff tops and lots of reading books and snuggling up (!) in the evening.

It’s about spending some time together and relaxing - don’t put pressure on yourself to do something that might stress you out.

If you really don’t want to fly then loads of Europe is accessible by train - seat61 is a great website for tips. Or even get the ferry and have a road trip. Enjoy!

Teds77 · 20/01/2019 18:13

Sorry - just to say July is a great time for UK and Europe. You can get good weather without having to fly all the way to Mexico.

Whitney168 · 20/01/2019 18:15

What do you like, OP?

I have been to Cancun and was personally very underwhelmed, from the point of view that it is so built-up, although there are some fabulous sights to see in Mexico and we have had superb holidays there in less commercial resorts.

There are holidays for all, obviously, but one man's meat is another man's poison 'n' all, so tell us what you want to do, when you want to go, vague budget, how hot/cold you can stand etc. and we can no doubt give some ideas.

Whitney168 · 20/01/2019 18:16

Ooops, see you said July.

Batinahat · 20/01/2019 18:19

I would second the suggestion of looking at train travel to interesting places - in September we used the train to do an amazing holiday across Europe with minimal flying and it was wonderful. Trains through Holland, Germany, Switzerland and down into Italy were all easy to arrange and book and travel was so much more relaxing than flying, and a fun adventure. Have a look on website Seat 61 as recommended, it has all you need to talk you through it step by step

We went to Aruba in July for our honeymoon. A-fucking-mazing.

Beautiful Caribbean island and so safe. God I wish we could afford to go back!

Thinkcalmthoughts · 20/01/2019 18:29

I'm all for trying new places and I don't want the fear of flying stopping me from seeing the world was nervous going to Paris but ok coming back think my fear is just the thought of flying etc

Mexico looks nice and seen a few lovely resorts though it's can I handle the fight time lol

Was thinking Aruba I'm looking through brouchers looking for different ideas

Our budget is 4 grand and heat I'm ok with but not sure how I'll be in hotter climates lol

Plus it will be for 2 weeks and would like to relax but also take in some sights etc

My now DH was suggesting Mexico/Cuba/Dominican etc. I liked the sound of them but was worried about safety (I'm quite an anxious person). We decided on Aruba partly because it's just gorgeous but also for the safety.

There's loads to do as well, we went on an amazing off road jeep safari, on a submarine tour, romantic sunset boat cruise and visited an ostrich farm lol! I would definitely recommend.

Thinkcalmthoughts · 20/01/2019 18:52

I'm kinda drawn to Mexico as the idea of going somewhere you wouldn't normally go or likely to go to again unless you had the money lol

I like the idea of white sandy beaches and clear blue sea

Is Mexico ok
And what about Greece Spain etc

Mexico is beautiful but will it not be crazy hot in July? We visited in May and it was around 30 degrees daily.

We had our honeymoon in Santorini in July 2 years ago. 4 hour flight time from the UK, beautiful island, amazing restaurants & gorgeous sunsets.

Also, I'm not sure how soon you would be planning to TTC, but if you are thinking about starting soon, I would take places with Zika virus into consideration Smile

Thinkcalmthoughts · 20/01/2019 18:55

@Cricketmum84

I'm quite anxious too Just by the fact of having to fly lol plus of what you hear about Mexico and the fact it's July we will be going hurricane season I've read for Mexico

MsSquiz · 20/01/2019 18:55

Just seen you are going for 2 weeks, you could do 2 or 3 Greek islands in that time. Lots of sightseeing to do as well as beautiful places to relax

Thinkcalmthoughts · 20/01/2019 18:58

@MsSquiz

Read up on that Zika virus while I was looking up about Mexico it's self and at the moment we are TTC

As for temps depends on where in Mexico you are we checked with the riveria maya part avg was 28 but who's to say it won't be higher

OP posts:
MsSquiz · 20/01/2019 19:02

@Thinkcalmthoughts I'm not sure where you checked, but currently Mexico isn't safe if you are pregnant or TTC due to the risk of zika?

wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/files/zika-areas-of-risk.pdf

Thinkcalmthoughts · 20/01/2019 19:08

@MsSquiz

Thanks for that totaly a game changer I've heard of the virus and read about it being Mexico but had no idea so many other countries are affected

We have been TTC since I came off the pill in Aug last year but the travel agents said nothing about that virus when we spoke about quotes etc

OP posts:
cricketmum84 · 20/01/2019 19:10

@Thinkcalmthoughts ah now that's another positive for Aruba, it's outside of the hurricane belt :)

You are perfectly safe to travel around the island unaccompanied too. We had an amazing day round the market talking to locals and drinking cold beer while dancing to a proper Caribbean band!

MsSquiz · 20/01/2019 19:10

@Thinkcalmthoughts I'm like a Zika expert at the moment as DH and I are TTC and having been planning a holiday for this year - pretty much everywhere we wanted to go was at risk of Zika! Sad

In terms of long haul destinations, you still have the Seychelles, Dubai and Mauritius (among other). European countries are a safer choice, and I would definitely recommend the Greek Islands in July Smile

MsSquiz · 20/01/2019 19:13

@Thinkcalmthoughts
I've found this page really helpful when looking at potential destinations. You can just type in the place and if it's purple, there's risk of Zika

wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/world-map-areas-with-zika

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Thinkcalmthoughts · 20/01/2019 19:30

@MsSquiz

No it's not bad news it's good to be honest as had no idea how wide spread it was. I thought was just Mexico was reading about that you need to take precautions from getting bitten plus couples who are basically thinking about getting pregnant have to not while on in these countries defo be changing ideas on honeymoon now espec as we don't want to risk it after deciding on we want another child. That's if I don't fall pregnant before and have a child before then

But again thank you

Thinkcalmthoughts · 20/01/2019 20:20

@MsSquiz

Have spoke to future hubby about the zika virus and he read up on the precautions not to get bit what with using repellent and trying to keep yourself covered don't think he's that impressed espec if it's not you want to relax in shorts and vest top and not worry about putting repellent on lol

Was looking there at Greece and crypus

Going to travel agents in morning to see about what else they can offer

Sicily is lovely, Taormina is our favourite flight was 2.5 hours. North coast of Spain we loved and we drove using the Portsmouth-Santander ferry. Or a cruise out of Southampton, again no flying.

MsSquiz · 20/01/2019 20:30

@Thinkcalmthoughts I know, it's rubbish!
We've gone with a week in Dubai in March for our holiday this year, thanks to TTC being so unpredictable!

For the type of honeymoon you have mentioned, definitely have a look into the Greek islands.

It took us months to decide on Santorini, and that was without Zika being an irritating factor!

Thinkcalmthoughts · 22/01/2019 16:41

Well it's done booked our honeymoon

Cyprus won us over
