Gran Canaria at Easter? Riu?

I'm looking for an AI holiday for a family of 4 at Easter. I've narrowed it down to GC as being one of the better Canary Islands at that time of year. Please correct me if I'm wrong about that!

Ideally I'm looking for at least 4 star Hotel with 2 bedroom family suites, or interconnecting rooms. I'm looking at the Riu chain as their hotels are usually nice.

Does anybody have any experience or tips?

We've stayed in the Riu Clubhotel in Meloneras several times. Can't really fault it. Spotlessly clean, several pools, entertainment is a bit naff but we aren't really interested in that aspect of it, right on promenade near restaurants.

It tends to be either older couples or younger families, with a lot of Germans (but that's GC in general). Food is good but we like to eat out in evenings too. However there's a decent enough selection with the themed restaurants too.

It's right next door to Riu Palace which isn't AI but half board (I think?).

April will be nice weather. We've been in November, December, And May and never had bad weather though. The south is generally always nice.

I prefer Meloneras to next door Maspalomas. It's quieter and more of a restaurant and couple of drinks crew than clubbing etc.

Thanks! It sounds like what we are after.

What kind of room did you have? Our kids are still young so go to bed early, and get up early. We need a separate bedroom but it’s not clear whether the one bedroom rooms have a separate lounge area or an actual separate room?

There were only two of us and in a standard room. No separate lounge but the rooms are a good size and we spent a lot of time on the balcony anyway as it's so nice in the evenings. I imagine there are deluxe rooms with more lounge room or a separate though, but we've always just stayed in a standard.

We have stayed at the Lopesan Baobab twice with our two children, which is also in Meloneras (agree with Celebelly re the resort, it’s great for young families). It’s a fantastic hotel, not AI as they don’t include lunch but we just got a small snack there or ate out of the hotel at lunchtime. The junior suites are great, sofa bed for the kids in the living area and then large double in bedroom with balcony or terrace.

I second the baobab too. I loved it there

Our best holiday ever was at the Baobab. Food is fantastic, although the rooms are a little dark. We had interconnecting rooms with our three boys in one and us in the other. Nightlife was great too. The Panchi disco! Haha! Would deffo go back there again.

Plus I should add we went at Easter and still got a bit burnt! Easy to go on trips too, the yellow submarine was good (by taxi) and the waterpark nearby was easy to get to by bus. Great pizza place on the beach too. Decent supermarket and pharmacy out of the main gates and turn left. Our kids just ate crisps and those chocolate filled croissants from the shop for lunch, after a massive breakfast and before the massive dinner.
