Not been before and would love to give it a whirl this year, only I've no idea which area/resort would best suit us. Been looking at Amalfi coast, Tuscany and Sardinia. We're mid 50's couple, not really into sight seeing or walking, like to lounge around (a pool) during the day (maybe a bit of a drive around the local areas if we get bored). However, we do like to go out to good restaurants in the evenings, along with a few drinks. Not keen on family type resorts, prefer a villa to a hotel (unless adults only), budget not too much of an issue. Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

My inlaws have stayed here several times. It is near where they now own an apartment, so we know how lovely the area is too. It's quite off the beaten track though.

We stayed in Puglia in Bari, its along the cost and is beautiful. Its also an hr away from Monopoli which has more resturants and more of a night life. I highly recommend Italy.

Sardinia or Tuscany for you....although I also love Venice and Cinque Terre but probably not what you are looking for. Have a great trip, everything about Italy is fabulous Wine

If you're not fussed about sightseeing and walking would Croatia appeal? Quite a similar feel to parts of Italy and some amazing food, but much less expensive. If you just want somewhere beautiful and relaxing but you're not fussed about ticking off specific locations on your "been there, seen that" list then you'd get a lot more for your money somewhere other than Italy.
