Hi, I’m off to Amsterdam next week, yay! I’m looking forward to it, but I do t want to pay €40 for a taxi from the airport the the hotel.
We’re staying right next to Vondelpark. Can anyone tell me exactly which trains/trams to get? And do I need anything special to use them? Or is it just a paper ticket from the office?

I’d really appreciate it, I feel a bit lost on this bit. Everything else is easy to find from the hotel on foot.

If you get the train from the airport to Amsterdam central it's only a 30 min walk "down"
Have fun, it's amazing!

That’s what I thought. Do I need any special cards for the trains? I read somewhere something about specific chipped travel cards but unsure.

I agree the train to central station is probably your easiest option (although maybe not the quickest but will also help you get to learn your way around the centre). You could walk to vondelpark but it is a fairly long way (around half an hour is long when you have luggage) so I would get a tram, think it's no. 9 but you can ask at the station.

Depending how long you are there and what you want to see, I would consider getting a travel card you can use on the trams. Vondelpark is a lovely place to stay but not super central and the trams are really frequent and easy to use once you've got hold of a route map.

There is a travel place in the airport which has lots of info and you can buy various travel cards. The site below is helpful. You can get a straightforward card just for trams / buses, or one that also has discounts to various sights / museums and some of these include your train ticket. You can get some of them online in advance.

To answer your second question you can just buy a straightforward train ticket at the station in the airport if that's all you need.

Thankyou!

I don’t know exactly what team you need to get but when we went there recently the trams were 2 carriages joined together and in the middle bendy section there was a manned desk where you purchased tickets so you didn’t have to buy one before you hit on. Everyone speaks fantastic English so they can advise if you’re better off buying a single/day ticket etc.

Hi PinkStars - I live in Amsterdam so let me tell you how to do it. Take the train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Zuid station. Then take Tram 5 direction Van Hallstraat and exit Rijksmuseum. It's a short walk from there to the Vondelpark. Check your hotel address on Google maps to make sure the Rijksmuseum is the nearest address, as the No. 5 is currently on a temporary route, and it might have a closer stop further or earlier on the route.

Thankyou very much
