We'd like some sun and definitely some sea and definitely a pool to play in with the kids. Good food and culture would also be fab but where to go. I'd thought Crete or Turkey but by late October both areas run the risk of rain, lots of rain. So where else?

Canaries would prob be best for kiids bu there's also North Africa, South Africa, any winter sun destinations. I lived in Crete for 2 years and the resorts were eiher shut or shutting down in Oct so not much for kids to do. Other alternative is Eurodisney. We took dd at 18mo and so loved it. Not sun or sea but loads of fun!

Tunisia, cheap, cheerful, warm, culture nice sea, good pools. I'd recommend port el kantoui

I would definitely second Tunisia - it is wonderful and the quality of accomodation is so much better value for money than Europe. Try to find out when Ramadan is because people who are serving all you can eat buffets are a bit more grumpy about it if they are fasting and hungry! I found the tunisians to be lovely warm people with a genuine love for kids.

Slightly cheaper, we did a week in sc at the beginning of October in spain. Renting an apartment from a friend of a friend cost us £250 pw for the appartment and cheap flights on ryan air. very sceptical about the whole thing but had a great holiday

Well that conclusively proves you shouldn't sit with preconcieved ideas. I'd have thought Tunisa would be risky with kids. I'll google your suggestions but do you recommend a holiday company?

Any particular hotel?

Why risky???

Tunisia would be fine,as would Turkey (where I lived for three years.)

Canaries is lovely all year round, have been to Gran Canria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, all very nice (with some not so nice spots). Great for kids, although not particularly cultured.
Would probably go for Lanzarote given the choice, Costa Teguise is nice. Fuerteventura has gone a bit tacky last time we went (opened up a subway, burger king and waterpark ). Gran Canaria ditto except for Puerto Mogan which is lovely but not really geared for kids, more couples relaxing

we went to Menorca last oct, with 3 kids and it was £900. Had lovely weather till the last day.

mosschops30 · 29/06/2007 22:33

Dont get me started on menorca sparklygothcat. I am like a one woman ambassador, weve been 2 years running and LOVE IT!

Where did you stay?

sparklygothkat · 29/06/2007 22:35

Cala n' forcat. We are going to book again for next year, can't go this year as I am pregnant and am high risk WE loved it too.

slovenlymother · 15/08/2007 22:01

I'm thinking about Morocco but it's a job to know where to start! Either that or Tunisia. Went once (pre kids tho)to Djerba, off the coast of Tunisia and that was v. nice.

WestCountryLass · 15/08/2007 22:11

We went to Corfu last October. We booked last minute and it cost £800 for 5* half board but was 2 kids. It was lovely weather every day though I am not sure if we were lucky or not/ What about Zante or the Canaries??

ChasingSquirrels · 15/08/2007 22:16

cyprus? hire a villa (owners direct or holiday rentals) try and get some cheaper flights and you might come in under £2k.
we went 4-18 oct last year and apart from the freak storm that threw hailstones the size of golfballs at us and washed away the beach (but it was freak - the locals were also the weather was fab.
