Cost of average summer holiday abroad?

DH and I took the kids to Menorca last summer (just before schools finished). DC1 is now 5 so we are bound by term times, and DH is struggling to grasp the cost increase in the same holiday....

One week in a lovely self catering apartment next to the beach (pool, garden terrace, restaurant on-site) is £2150 for 4 adults and 2 kids. Last year it was nearer £1000. Flights I've found for about £150!

We can afford the holiday it's just that DH doesn't want to pay that much having paid loads less before.

Can I ask if you think that's about right, too much, or even good value? It's our first one in summer holiday time so trying to get a guage of the prices.

Tell DH to for holidays himself.

Traveling at half term I have noticed it is cheap to stay for an extra week.

Sounds about right cost wise. We went to Majorca self catering but in a nice hotel complex with 2 children in August last yr and with flights and car hire it was £5k all in. But that was for 2 weeks.

£1200 to lanazarote for 2 adults, one 8 month old. Including spending money. This was September though but lanzarote is hot all year round so we could of went anytime

Would it not be cheaper for you to go during term time and just pay the fine? I believe it’s around £120

Yep was looking for 2 adults 2 kids next summer and for 2 weeks all inclusive it’s approx 4K and 3500 for 1 week- so May aswell do the 2 weeks. I used to think big 4-5k holidays were luxury holidays in faraway shores. Now they’re European holidays with kids clubs.

The trick is to book really early. I booed in October and I'm paying £1300 for 4 of us DC age 14 and 11, self catering in Portugal in august. It's not a fancy place, but gets good reviews and has three pools to choose from. Price for it has gone up now though.

Last there or four European Summer holidays in August cost less than 2k - 2adults 2kids. - Sweden, Spain, France, Belgium/Netherlands

£3000 all inclusive for a week in Majorca in 2017. My husband has struggled with the cost too, and then complains when the accommodation doesn't meet his very high standards!

Last year we booked an all inclusive in hotel on a Greek island, 2 adults 1 child and paid £1695. This year booked to go away again all in, 1 week menorca , during half term and paid £1700. We are flying from an airport further away as our local airport was very expensive (due to half term dates).
What is the actual cost for your own family unit?

This year we're doing all inclusive in Turkey. Two weeks £4000. In July
Although it is a bit more as I upgraded the room to a duplex as didn't want to all be in one room.

Our share will be approx £1500, DH's parents are joining us 😬 then the flights on top. It's a lovely place, and doesn't seem too steep to me given its summer hols!

Anyway the good news is I managed to persuade him, and it's all booked!

Mainland Spain is often a bit cheaper than Menorca, especially Costa Brava

We’ve just paid 5250 for 2 weeks 4 star all inclusive in august. We’ve been to previously. Reputable chain in Mallorca based in the north east of
The island . Plenty for the children to do but still has a premium vibe. I priced Ibiza and it was £7000 for Sensatori. I just couldn’t bring myself to pay that for a family of 4.
It is what it is tied by the school holidays for a number of reasons this year and demand is high!

We’re paying £2400 nine nights all-inclusive in Gran Canaria in the Easter holidays. It’s the same place we went to last year, so can confirm that it’s lovely! That’s for two adults two children

Seems about right. Flights are £££ in school hols, I would say it's actually a good deal.

Ps for this year (kids are adults but we are really restricted due to work) it's coming in at £4800 full board but no alcoholic drinks. Hoping it will come down - checking each week.

We've got a week in August in a villa with private pool, 4 adults and 2 dc £1600 including flights. Need to add car hire but pil's are paying that. This is mainland Spain. It's taken me quite a lot of searching and holding my breath for flights!

May half term is a great week to go. Europe isn’t on holiday so it’s mid season prices. Weather in southern EUrope is definitely hot - at least mid 20’s if not hotter. You only have to get cheap flights which may be too late now (cheaper bought the previous Sept/Oct).

We have booked to go to Mallorca in May half term (we actually leave 2 days before term ends, one of those is a TD day so the children only miss one day- and we saved not far off £1k by doing so.) £1700 all inclusive for 2 adults and 2 children.

Posted too soon. I mean that when you're a teacher you can't even take children out of school for one day to cut the cost.

Three bed roomed apartment in Nerja with wifi and air con £2,000

Spending money about £2,000

Money well spent in my opinion.
