Vigo - where to stay nearby

Hi all,
Have found some cheap flights to Vigo in May half term. Am looking for recommendations of where to stay locally - we will be 4 adults, 3 children, ages 2, 3 and 4

Would like to be near to a beach ( walking distance) and some amenities if possible - shops, a cafe or restaurant or two though we will probably hire a car.

I've been looking at possibly Sanxenxo, portonovo, Montalvo areas or maybe Cangas slightly further south ....

I would be so grateful for any help or recommendations as I have no idea where to start! Thanks

Very limited info here. I haven't been to any of the areas you mentioned but we did once stop on a cruise in Vigo for the day. We took the bus to Samil and were very impressed with it. The sand was white, there was a lovely open air pool on the sea front and a slide and lots of restaurants and people promenading up and down. It was a lovely day and has always stood out in my mind as a nice place to visit again.
