Fuerteventura is lovely! Though I wouldn't go in March as it's very windy and can be cooler than the other islands even in summer. I was there last July and it wasn't scorching.
I like Lanzarote and Tenerife. Both have a wide range of resorts for different tastes. It depends what you want? Quiet secluded low key nighlife? All inclusive? Lively and lots of restaurants?

I usually go to Gran Canaria and personally I love it if you stay away from the real touristy areas, however last year I went to Fuerte and it’s beautiful. It was very windy but it has lovely white sand and clear sea!

Whereabouts do you recommend? Gran Can current top choice!

Fuerte is wonderful. We love Corralejo and have been in March, April, September, October and December and always been blessed with fabulous weather and no wind! It's very low key, chilled out with amazing beaches and cycle routes. Love it.

It depends what kind of thing you like to do. Las Palmas is the main town and there’s lovely shops and restaurants and the best aquarium I’ve ever been to. Maspalomas has the dunes and close by is Melonares which is such a lovely little town, and it has the most amazing spa. Agaete on the west side is a nice non touristy village. I have family in Puerto Rico which is touristy but of course I love it anyway! If you’re going to rent a car (would recommend if you can) the island is so small you can drive round the whole thing in about 2.5 hours, so really you could go anywhere and see all the good things!

Depends on what you like in a holiday? All the islands have different types of resorts.

FourteenCows · 18/01/2019 22:43

Forgot to add that if you can’t get a car, my cousin is a native and runs great taxi tours that take you to see different things that aren’t always mention on the internet etc, if you were interested

Stayed in El Cotillo on Fuerteventura a few years ago around the time of their fiestas. Really lovely and very peaceful place. Have been to Lanzarote twice staying at different ends of the island and didn't find it as nice the last time (8 years between visits). We've really appreciated having a hire car on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Lovely zoo and botanic gardens on Fuerteventura and I'd definitely go back there over Lanzarote. Would like to visit Tenerife and Gran Canaria, so watching with interest!

fourteencows what is Agaete like?? Thinking of booking a last minute trip to go at start of Feb. Are there nice beaches nearby (and will it be hot enough?). And what's the drive like to get to other parts of the island? thank you and sorry for hopping on your post op but its the only mention of Agaete i can find!

I’m a lanzarote fan. Been going there for twenty years and still love it. Great restaurants, clean streets and beaches. Lovely weather. Never seen any trouble as it’s mainly a couples and families resort not a clubbing one.

I've been to Lanzarote and Gran Canaria and MUCH preferred Lanzarote. GC is very built up and (IMO) ugly by comparison. There are factories belching smoke on the coast near the airport and lots of strip malls, warehouses and out of town big box type places. The west coast is basically a series of resort towns, most of them endless blocks of apartments. Puerto de Mogan is quite charming, but the rest were (again IMO) soulless. The interior is beautiful, but not easy driving (lots of hairpin bends), and it was cloudy and damp up there.

Lanzarote, by comparison, is quite unspoilt. A local artist in the 60s managed to get a law passed that meant no new buildings were over 2 storeys high and most of the island has been protected as a result. Only Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen have ugly blocks, the rest is wild and rugged. We loved it.

  1. Lanzarote (Playa Blanca) 2)Fuerteventura (Corralejo)
  2. Tenerife
  3. didn't like Gran Canaria

Been every year for the last 11 years... plus a few before that Grin
