Where to stay en route from Calais to Brittany?

We're going to drive to Brittany and, as we aren't in any hurry, would like to stop for a couple of nights on the way there. Can anyone suggest a hotel, gite or even campground to stay at. I'd prefer hotel, but haven't discounted taking the tent with us. We'd like to stay somewhere right near a good beach for the kids and a couple of hours out of Calais. Don't want to spend too much so are not looking for luxury!

Deaville is very chic; probably not the cheapest resort but there should be a good range of accommodation. The beach is huge and there are lots of cafes adjacent to it for that authentic Gallic feel.

Can't be more precise, because it's about 4 years and a fuzzy journey down memory lane since we similarly broke our journey there, en route to our main destination.

When we first did Calais to the vendee we stopped in Rouen for a night which isn't near a beach but was fab! We stayed at the Novotel Rouen Sud and it was SO good we'd stay there again. (we've stayed twice!!) The room was great, it had a fab restaurant which catered for kids, a pool, tennis courts, play area and a woodland walk. Inside next to the bar (handy!) they had ain door lego play area with playstaions so guess where dh sat!!! Outside as it's next to the uni and conference centre there were restauarants, a wood, supernmarket and other hotels. Really nice stop and Rouen (although we didn't stop in the city that time) is a lovely old city. The hotel is just off the motorway too.
