Family of 5 in one room/suite- hotel or villa close to beach - possible?!

The kids have been to Disneyland Paris but nowhere else abroad, we would love to be able to take them this year. They're aged 13, 10 and 8, love the pool and beach but wouldn't want to participate in any kids clubs. Ideally not too far, thinking max 4 hours flying time.

I've looked on MN for recommendations but when I search places it always comes back with 2 rooms which is obviously more expensive as well! We want to be altogether.

Has anyone had the same problem and found somewhere? We would consider a villa if close to the beach and the right £.

Watching with interest.
We are a tall family of 4 two teenagers a boy and a girl. Many rooms seem to be geared up towards a couple with one child or a couple with two same sex smaller kids who would happily share a room. Especially in Croatia.
What about a Eurocamp style holiday or you
might be lucky in Menorca or Minorca. Or sometimes if you can email the hotel direct they can advise whether the rooms are big enough/geared up to take an extra bed.

But if I were you I would put something together myself maybe hire an apartment from holiday lettings or owners direct with the correct number of beds/bedrooms. If your kids aren’t interested in facilities. I have a friend with four kids who does this or books two rooms a male room and a female room as she has two of each including two teenagers of each sex.

Thanks for your reply. That's a good idea, putting something together ourselves...I will have a look at the companies you suggested.

Yes a lot of rooms say a sofa bed to sleep another 2 but we don't want to be putting that up each night and actually want a proper bed for them for that much £!

We are a family of 5 and when the kids were younger as in toddlers we stayed in 1 room but now we get a family room if available. This is 2 rooms where there is only one door out to the hotel corridor. We have been to Egypt and Turkey and Dubai where they are quite common.

But some hotels only allow a max of 4 in these rooms when u search them but if you contact them directly they will allow 5.

Sunshine.co.uk and loveholidays are good places to have a look and the cheapest. I book flights and hotels separate. Always go to waterpark hotels.

With 3dc of those ages, I'd definitely recommend the Magic Natura Resort in Costa Blanca. The bungalows sleep 5 and the dc don't have to share the same room as you. The resort has a waterpark with slides that will appeal to teens and tweens and the hotel also gives you unlimited entry to Terra Natura Wildlife Park – where you can do a daytime or nighttime safari.

We went to Menorca & stayed in a 2 bed apartment. We opted for self catering.

We're a family of 5 so DH & I slept on the sofa bed in the living area which was actually really comfortable. DD9yrs had a twin room to herself & DS8 & DS6 shared the other twin room. 1 twin room had an en-suite & there was another bathroom off the living area.

It would have been nice to have a bedroom for ourselves but it was fine for a week.

2 lovely pools, a splash park & a playground. The beach was 2 mins walk & there were a few playgrounds in the area.

Would highly recommend it!

Thanks so much for your replies, I will look into them all.
JurassicGirl where in Menorca did you stay? Sounds great.

Ricekrispie22 that place sounds fab!

Thanks Smile

We were in Kos last year and had a family room - so our room was separated from the kids by an internal door and they had two normal single beds in their room.

It was a Family Choice resort by Tui. Lots of clubs but you don't have to get involved at all.

Thanks babysharkah I will look at Family Choice with Tui, we haven't been abroad for years so had no idea where best to look even!

We stayed in interconnecting rooms last year (in Crete) as a family of 5. Have you tried the booking.com website - you can see quite easily what the type of room is (I.e. just look for the family rooms).

We've also used AirBnB quite successfully in the mast couple of years (Italy).

We stayed in Santo Tomas & booked it as a package with Tui.

The actual place was called Mestral & Llebeig Smile

We stayed at the Falesia Mar last year in Algarve (Falesia Garden has access to the same facilities). The apartments were big we had a separate room with big double or two singles joined together. The children slept in the living on sofas which converted to single beds. See reviews on Trip Adviser. Large pool, small games room, beach access down some steep steps directly below hotel, activities/pool games organised daily for mixed age groups (water polo, water basketball, aerobics, daily challenges. You have to go on a B&B basis but the breakfasts were lovely lots of choices to keep all the family happy. Nice restaurants in Olhos De Agua within 5-15 minutes walking distance. If you email 3HB hotel group direct and ask if they could put another bed in the children’s room for you that might work ok.
