Denmark beach holiday

Currently thinking about going to Denmark for our summer holidays, DS is 10, DD 13, we would drive. There are lots of nice holiday homes on Romo island, but we can't work out if there's more to do other than unspoiled beaches. Also looked at Ribe, which looks very pretty. Can anyone recommend a good area with access to beaches and also other things to do? We are outdoorsy, 3 of us can imagine hiring bikes, but would also like access to restaurants and museums.
Any general advice about Danish holidays would be great, I have read the Copenhagen thread already.

Denmark is great - we’ve done beach/seaside holidays north and south of Aarhus, and also in Hornbaek. Beaches are generally huge, beautiful and really clean. Lovely for swimming and there are often big platforms to walk out to deep water. The only thing I think to hear in mind is that you won’t be guaranteed any sunshine. We usually do a bit of beach / walking / trips to cities and museums all together so it suits us ok to have mixed weather. There are zillions of amazing museums in Denmark and gorgeous gorgeous food everywhere. V jealous if you go :)
