Portugal and Spain city break suggestions

Hi,

I’m hoping for some help. We’re planning a city break in March/April time and trying to narrow it down thinking either Madrid and Lisbon, or Barcelona and Lisbon. Has anyone got any recommendations? It will be Two adults plus in laws

Have you thought about Seville?

I haven’t looked at Seville in much detail yet - would you pair it with Barcelona or Lisbon?

It’s beiatiful. As is Granada. Although Granada smaller

Sorry I’m not being much help. Go for a month. Visit them all. Don’t take the in-laws 😂

I prefer Porto to Lisbon and much prefer Seville to Barcelona. Personal preference of course, but Porto and Seville are two of my favourite cities in Europe, so those two would be my choice for a Portugal/Spain combo.

Although Grenada is great too and makes more sense as part of a 2 city break with Seville as it's in the same area. There are cheap flights between Porto and Seville, but otherwise it's quite a long way by train or car. Have never been to Madrid so no thoughts on that, but there is a high speed train link between Madrid and Seville, so if you wanted 2 Spanish cities, that would work quite well...

Loved Seville, highly recommended! A very walkable city...great vibe, great food! Gets my vote! More laid back / less busy than Barcelona, but we went off season

How are you planning to travel between the two cities? Barcelona to Lisbon is very long.
Would you consider Barcelona and Valencia? Or Seville and Lisbon would be lovely too.

Barcelona and Seville are both fab.

Another vote for Porto - we had a lovely break there about 4 years ago. Lots to see and do, and very attractive.

Another vote for Porto! Although I am a huge port fan and spent a very happy, sunny day sampling MANY ports at the port houses along the river bank!! Also loved Lisbon, lots of different aspects to the city and great food. Liked Barcelona and Madrid. Of the two, I enjoyed Barcelona more.

We were in Madrid and Lisbon last year, 2 separate trips and LOVED them both. I have to say if I had to chose one to return to immediately I would pick Lisbon!

We've also been to Barcelona a few times and loved it too. Nice choices to have to make!

I love Madrid and Lisbon.
I'd do Madrid-Salamanca-Lisbon.

In fact I'm aiming to this summer!

Thanks so much to everyone that made suggestions! Thought I would come back and update in case anyone is considering something similar. We had a fantastic trip to Barcelona, Porto and Lisbon. I would highly recommend it to anyone else, my personal favourite was Porto! Planning trips back to all three in the future, once I wean myself off all the lovely holiday wines.....
