Flying into and from Quito.

Myself and my daughter are off to South America this summer and I wondered if anyone had flown into and out of Quito and can recommend airlines or ones to avoid.
Also any advice about Quito airport itself would be very welcome!

We flew with Iberia from Madrid and BA from the UK to Madrid. Fairly basic but I’m not sure there are many options from the uk so choice is probably limited.

Flying in is interesting! I doubt if it’s the easiest of approaches to an airport! I think it’s also at quite a high altitude. The airport itself is quite modern. Quito is fantastic though!

Where are you flying from?

We are flying from Heathrow. In fact have just finalised the flights. Going via Miami with BA and AA. Then coming back via Madrid and Iberia. Going via the US was actually cheaper but it also occurred to me that post Brexit I’d rather not get their via Europe just in case it had all become nightmarish!

We are glad our holiday in April is to the USA! Do you need Estas for flying in and out of Miami? I think the USA route took longer but we did BA to Madrid. How ever you get to Quito, it’s great!

Just make sure you have your ESTA sorted for going via USA and make sure you have plenty of time to get to your connecting flight. Only use the official US government site to get the ESTA.

The USA doesn't do airside transit so you will have to clear US immigration and customs before handing your bags in for your connection.
Safe travels

I think that’s why most people go via Madrid. Time!

I am going to Quito in July, en route to the Galápagos.
Flying Iberia via Madrid.
I’m spending three nights in Quito, a bit anxious about altitude sickness but the hotel says they have oxygen available if necessary.
