Does this even happen? Airline related

Had a holiday booked for September 2019 - via Villa Plus. Villa and flights for family of four.

VP contacted me last week to say the airline, Thomas Cook, have now advised that they aren't flying on those days after all and as their amended dates didn't fit in with the villa booking, VP had sourced alternative flights for us - at a cost. £150 more for each person.

I've never heard of an airline changing flight days so far in advance before, is this a thing?!

Don't even know why I'm asking, as I've told VP to forget it and I will start again. But I'm disappointed.

Yes, it does happen.
Irritating.

Yes it does happen. Lots of people find themselves having rescheduled flights months in advance as that's when schedules are made

Thomas Cook did this to me. Day time flights to Turkey from EMA changed to early am flights from Birmingham. I complained and sourced new flights from Manchester going out and Leeds coming back. I wasn't charged extra. Could you change airports at all?

CatAnnoyance · 01/01/2019 21:25

Ah so it seems it is a thing. How inconsiderate!

Villa Plus did offer some alternatives (well, two) but involved additional costs - and shittier flight times than the original TC flight.

Ah well. I'll take another look.

You can source your own though providing the flights are still with Thomas Cook. If they have altered the airport it is classed as a major change and they will usually do their best to accommodate you. Their alternatives were the Birmingham flights. I found the Manchester and Leeds flights myself

Have a look at Jet2villas if it's a villa package you're looking for.

legolimb · 02/01/2019 11:01

That seems very unfair. You booked a package so Villa Plus should have to honour the price you signed up to, I would have thought.

Perhaps it's in the small print - but seems off to me.

I guess you may be able to find your own alternative flights?

I use skyscanner in the first instance to see who flies where - to keep it simple.

hope you get a result
