Travel insurance - how easy is it to get money back?

I booked and put down a deposit for ski holiday on 1st April 2018 to travel on the 12th January 2019. On the 22nd April I was told that there is a high possibility that I have cancer. I have being paying for the ski holiday in instalments each month. On the 22nd June it was confirmed that I did have cancer and treatment started on the 21st August. I finished on the 19th October but due to part of the treatment leaving me with trapped nerve pain in lower back and legs I don’t think I will be able to ski. I had travel insurance attached to my bank account (recently changed banks) so how easy is it to get my money back?

If you didn't declare when you first had your diagnosis then you might struggle.

It depends on so many factors it’s impossible to say on here. Did your insurance specifically cover winter sports? Did you inform them of your diagnosis and treatment? The only way to find out is to call the insurer

The issue you will have is that you changed policies (when you changed bank) and failed to declare what is now a pre existing condition. It's unlikely you are covered but you should contact the insurer for further advice.

I was covered for winter sports with the insurance I had in place when I booked the holiday right up to when I paid for the holiday in full which was last October and only changed banks a couple of weeks ago. If there is any way I can go on the holiday I plan to purchase insurance which covers the pre-existing medical condition

If you didn’t declare the treatment or add winter sports on when the policy started the chances of your claim being successful are pretty slim unfortunately
